World Cup: USA-England ends 1-1; thanks Robert Green
The United States played England to a tie at the World Cup Saturday (June 12), thanks to one of the worst goalkeeping blunders ever.
The two teams finished with a 1-1 tie in their opening World Cup match, thanks to a goal by Clint Dempsey in the 40th minute of the game that dribbled off the hands of English goalkeeper Robert Green and into the net. It was pretty much the definition of a soft goal, as you can see in the video above, but it still counted and the U.S. was able to get a point in Group C.
Steven Gerrard scored England's goal in the fourth minute.
The United States plays its next match on Friday against Slovenia then wraps up group play against Algeria on June 23.
Did you watch USA-England? What did you think of Dempsey's shot and Green's mistake?

Well, a goal is a goal. Be it 'soft' or 'hard'.
That was just atrocious ball-handling by their goalie but a goal is a goal. He's not going to live that one down in Britain, that's for sure.
I watched it with some British friends -- it was hilarious. They were predicting they would win 3-0 and we got a terrific point out of it. Great result!
Love the non-football fan comment "the US played England to a tie" LOL!!
Get your footie parlance right, it's 'held England to a draw', you don't use the word tie for football (I refuse to call it soccer!!)
Cath, just chill out and relax a bit. They both mean the same thing. We say "tie" and we call it soccer. So what's the big deal. There's really no need to be pompous about it; is there?
Maybe its the nerves that played part in this but lets be honest, a kid could have stopped this.
What a goal !!! with a bit of help from your friends. Anyhow, I thought that the American team in some way deserved a goal - they played an intelligent game, any chance of lending us your goal keeper ?
