TV guest star wish list: Politics make strange bedfellows

ABC Family has set an airdate for Bristol Palin's appearance on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," and Lifetime has booked Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, for a guest spot on "Army Wives." Heck, even Al Gore is doing another voiceover appearance on "Futurama."

The recent spate of political figures -- or at least people related to them -- popping up on TV shows got us thinking: What other shows might benefit from a bit of Washington stunt casting? We're not talking about seasoned actor-politicians like former senator and "Law & Order" star Fred Thompson but people currently in the political mix. A few modest proposals:

Nancy Pelosi on "Desperate Housewives": The speaker of the House could take over for Drea de Matteo as the newest neighbor on Wisteria Lane. Just imagine the icy dinner-party talk with arch-conservative Bree (Marcia Cross).

Joe Biden on "Parks and Recreation": Biden is an unintentional comedy machine. Put him in proximity to Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) -- perhaps on some kind of vice-presidential tour of Pawnee -- and we think intentional hilarity could ensue.

Chelsea Clinton on "Gossip Girl": She's reportedly getting married soon. We can see Blair (Leighton Meester) in particular really, really wanting to score an invitation, and if all else fails, crashing the wedding.

Meghan McCain on "Pretty Little Liars": We're not sure how we'd cast Sen. John McCain's daughter -- substitute teacher, maybe? -- but her outspoken personality feels like a nice fit with ABC Family's new series.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on "Brothers & Sisters": The show has never quite set its political story lines in the real world of California politics, but we think a cameo by the outgoing Governator -- perhaps at a fund-raiser for Kitty's (Calista Flockhart) Senate campaign -- would work nonetheless.

Sasha and Malia Obama on "Wizards of Waverly Place": We know that they were invited to appear on "Hannah Montana" shortly after their dad's 2008 election win, but given "Hannah" star Miley Cyrus' recent, uh, grown-up antics, "Waverly Place" might be a little more age-appropriate spot for the first daughters.
