'True Blood's' Alexander Skarsgard sails with 'Battleship'
Alexander Skarsgard is boarding Peter Berg's movie "Battleship."The "True Blood" star has signed on to play "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch's older brother in the movie, which takes its title from the old board game but will presumably involve more than pushing plastic pins into little models.
Both actors will play naval officers in the movie, and Kitsch's character idolizes his by-the-book brother, according to Heat Vision at The Hollywood Reporter. The blog also says the story will feature an alien-invasion plot. (And here we thought it was just enemy planes dropping the bombs in the board game.)
Berg ("Friday Night Lights," "Hancock") is scheduled to begin filming "Battleship" at the end of August; it's currently scheduled for release in summer 2012.
In addition to "True Blood," Skarsgard stars in Rod Lurie's remake of "Straw Dogs," which is due out next year, and is also attached to the Lars von Trier film "Melancholia."
