'The Walking Dead': First look at Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes

"The Walking Dead" is coming to AMC this October -- check out this first photo of Andrew Lincoln as police officer Rick Grimes.

Grimes is the leader of a group of survivors following the zombie-pocalypse. So far the only other cast member is "The Ghost Writer" actor Jon Bernthal as Shane, the partner and friend to Grimes.

Robert Kirkman, creator/writer of the comic and executive producer on the series says, "Writing this book for the past seven years I've gotten very close to the character of Rick.  Andrew Lincoln embodies every aspect of the character that fans know and love.  After seeing this photo I don't think that there will be a doubt in anyone's mind that he's perfect for the role."

"We hope to do for zombies what 'Mad Men' has done for advertising," director Frank Darabont said in a recent behind-the-scenes look at the series.

"The Walking Dead" is scheduled to premiere during AMC's Fearfest in October, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. The six-episode first season chronicles a group of survivors of the zombie-pocalypse as they search for a safe place to inhabit.
