2010 Emmys
'The Big Bang Theory's' pop-up Emmy submission
"The Big Bang Theory" has a pretty good chance at being one of the nominees for best comedy series at this year's Emmys. And if there were an award for best "for your consideration" packaging, it would be a shoo-in.
The show's Emmy submission comes in a package that opens out into pop-up scenes featuring the characters in the comic-book shop, in Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) apartment, at Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) place and in their shared hallway. In the background are the usual plaudits from critics -- and, oh yeah, a DVD of two episodes ("The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary" and "The Large Hadron Collision").
From the front, it looks like a simple composition notebook:
But oh, the wonders that await once you open up the book. See Leonard, Penny and Sheldon on the couch!
Marvel at the three leads in the comic shop, joined by Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar)!
"Big Bang" producer Warner Bros. TV has also included a helpful user guide to the pop-up, encouraging recipients to "Witness amazing physics in action!" The book has magnets on its front and back covers that hold the pop-up panorama. So, as the card says, "The invisible force of ELECTROMAGNETISM will hold your pop-up book open for you!"
Whether the fancy packaging actually has any effect on Emmy voters is debatable, but it's fun to look at, at any rate. "The Big Bang Theory" will find out its Emmy fate when the nominations are announced July 8.
