Starz cancels 'Party Down,' 'Gravity'
The party is over for "Party Down."The critically acclaimed but lightly watched comedy, which just ended its second season, won't be coming back for a third, Starz announced Wednesday (June 30). The cable channel has also dropped "Party Down's" Friday-night companion, "Gravity."
"After careful consideration, we've decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of 'Party Down' and 'Gravity,'" Stephan Shelanski, executive vice president of programming for Starz Entertainment, says in a statement. "We're grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup."
Though its fans are not happy -- mourning cries are plentiful on Twitter -- "Party Down's" cancellation wasn't a huge surprise. The show didn't have any deal in place beyond this season, and star (and producer) Adam Scott recently became a regular on "Parks and Recreation." Starz has also leaned more toward drama projects in its recent development, joining the BBC to co-produce a new season of "Torchwood" and buying the rights to an Australian crime drama called "Underbelly."
"Party Down" is nominated for a Television Critics Association best comedy series and has an outside shot at an Emmy nomination next week.

I feel bad for Lizzy Caplan as the part she had in Mad Love was recast b/c of her commitment to Party Down (Judy Greer got the part). Had they canceled this a few weeks ago she could have kept that part.
Both of these shows were great and will be missed. "Gravity" may have been an odd show but Krysten Ritter was simply fantastic in it and proved she should get her own show. Way to get canceled on an enormous cliff hanger. The fact that no one watched "Party Down" but over XX million watch "The Office" shows that people don't know what a good workplace comedy should look like. Damn you Starz.
You don't have to rag on The Office to support Party Down. Both shows are very funny. I loved Gravity too and am very sorry to see it go as well. As little as I heard of anyone watching Party Down, it is still more than I heard of other people watching Gravity, because I never saw or heard a single mention of anyone who watched it. I'm glad I got to see it while it lasted, but I can't be mad that it got canceled if I never heard of anyone else who ever watched a single episode besides me.
Poor Lizzy. All her shows get canceled. And I've enjoyed every series she's been apart of: Related, The Class, and now Party Down. Such a shame.
That's really sad. I loved Party Down. :(
That makes me mad. Party Down was great. =( It's witty and off the wall. Where am I going to find that now? Gawd...why do they have to cancel all these types of shows? They did it to Arrested Development too. *sigh* Better than most the crap on now.
