'Mean Girls 2' in the works -- Lohans need not apply
Six years after "Mean Girls" made Lindsay Lohan a breakout star, Paramount is at work on a sequel to the movie -- but unless Ali is looking for work, it will in all likelihood be Lohan-free."Mean Girls 2" is scheduled to begin shooting in Atlanta next month, and from the sound of things it's an in-name-only sequel to the 2004 movie, which was written by Tina Fey and co-starred Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert. Think more "Bring It On: In It to Win It" than, say, "The Dark Knight."
The story centers on a character named Jo, who agrees to become friends with wallflower Abby when Abby's rich dad agrees to pay Jo's college tuition.
The two take on a new group of Plastics, and given our knowledge of other high-school movies, we're guessing Jo will discover that she genuinely likes Abby, their relationship will be tested when Abby finds out about the tuition arrangement and they'll eventually realize the value of true friendship.
Actress and director Melanie Mayron ("Greek," "In Treatment," "thirtysomething") is directing the sequel. It's being produced by Paramount Famous Productions and will likely be released straight to DVD (and probably turn up on ABC Family soon after that).

Mean Girls is one of the most awesome teen girl movies ever. Tina Fey did hilarious writing. Rachel McAdams and her minions, including the retarded character of Seyfried, were awesome. And Jingle Bell Rock has never been that sexy..or funny. Loved that movie, it's hilarious and good. Of course they need a sequel to extort money out of it.
