'Grey's Anatomy': Katherine Heigl submits herself for an Emmy
Nevermind that Katherine Heigl has not been seen around the halls of Seattle Grace Hospital since January -- that's not stopping her from submitting herself in the supporting actress category for this year's Emmy race, confirms her rep to EW.Even though Heigl has not appeared on "Grey's Anatomy" for more than half of the season, there's no set amount of episodes that an actor must be in to be eligible for either the supporting or lead actor categories.
The TV-turned-film actress was supposed to return to "Grey's" for another 18 months after the 3-month family leave she took following the adoption of her daughter, Naleigh. However, she never showed up on set on her scheduled return date of March 1, and soon after it was confirmed that she would not be returning.
We'll learn if Heigl makes the cut when nominations for the 62 Primetime Emmys are announced July 8. Ellen Pompeo also hopes to hear her name announced on the 8th in the lead actress category, while other "Grey's" castmates are crossing their fingers for nominations in the supporting categories.
"Grey's" itself is rallying for best drama. The two-hour season finale as well as "The Time Warp," "Suicide is Painless," "I Saw What I Saw," and "Give Peace a Chance" episodes have been submitted for consideration.
Heigl fans can see the actress formerly known as Izzie Stevens in her latest film, "Killers," which opens Friday, June 4.

Amazing. After sabotaging herself and her career for so many years with asinine rants about working hours, working conditions, not feeling that the quality of the writing was up to standard, etc., now suddenly she wants recognition for a season in which she did absolutely nothing specatacular! Grey's Anatomy pulled 16 million viewers for its finale without her and a 5.4 demo rating. The show is a huge hit without her and her movie chooses are suspect at best. Let's face it, she's not exactly landing Oscar material for movie roles. If her new film flops, she's in deep doodoo. Aparently, this desperate move indicates she's already realizing her huge miscalculations in judgment.
The absolute nerve and irony. Good riddance to Katherine and her horrible brunette hair.
hi. im your fan! i love you baby!
I was always a fan of Katherine's, but I think she's being selfish even trying to get herself nominated for an Emmy. She did not appear in many episodes at all and chose to leave the show in a lurch and abandon the fans who'd supported her character for many years. The way Izzie left was terrible, and that's not down to the writers, it's down to Katherine's refusal to want to give Izzie a decent exit.
I really hope she doesn't even get a nomination, she doesn't deserve it. For season 5, she may have, not for season 6 - a season in which she rarely did anything, and yet she still wishes to be eligible for recognition.
Now I hate her even more! She's unbelievable!
I don't see how she even WON in 2007 opposite far more deserving co-stars Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson.
jeez dude! ppl will ***** if she submits and ***** if she don't. if she DIDNT submit this time, that'd make a head line too! "heigl doesn't submit herself for emmy's AGAIN!"
you ppl are stupid, bottom line.
Heigl, you're a badass, keep on keepin' on baby!
Hope her career is over soon.....can't stand her!!!
I'm not a big fan of her snarky lack of gratitude...but, the reality is that she did some good work this season on Grey's. My money is on Sandra Oh though...who consistently and subtly delivers
