'Grey's Anatomy' is the season's DVR champ

greys-anatomy-finale-320.jpg"Grey's Anatomy" may have fallen some in the ratings this season, but it still tops one Nielsen list: It's the most-DVR'ed show on TV.

The ABC series ended the 2009-10 season with the biggest gains from DVR use in both total viewers and adults 18-49, according to the final live-plus-7 ratings for the year. Its 2.83 million-viewer gain per episode just beat the 2.82 million viewers per episode for "The Mentalist." The two shows ran neck and neck in the live-plus-7 rankings pretty much all season.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, "Grey's" added 1.5 points (going from 4.8 to 6.3) per episode, three tenths of a point better than its closest competitor, "House" (4.9 to 6.1).

For the most part, the most-DVR'ed shows are also among the most popular with same-day viewers: Seven of the top 10 shows with the biggest DVR gains in total viewers are also in the top 20 overall, and an eighth, "Lost," was in the top 30.

The biggest show on TV, however, didn't get a very big boost from DVR use. "American Idol" added an average of about 1.8 million viewers between its two weekly episodes -- hardly small potatoes, but less than 10 percent of its total viewership. Because "Idol" airs live to much of the country and viewers vote after the show, the incentive to save it for later is lower than with other shows.

One caveat to all these numbers: The live-plus-7 ratings cover only original episodes of shows that aired in their regular timeslot. Reruns and special airings -- i.e., the "Lost" series finale airing on a Sunday rather than its normal Tuesday spot -- aren't accounted for, so the numbers below won't quite match up with the season ratings as a whole.

Below are the top 10 DVR-aided shows in viewers and adults 18-49.

Grey's Anatomy has made one of the biggest ratings turnarounds in recent memory. That 16 million average for a scripted show going into its 7th season is pretty stellar. Here's to continued success and ratings in the 20 million zone! Congrats to Grey's!

So basically LOST has the most DVR+7 gains because it's series finale was not included in these numbers??

I will never understand how the top rated shows are also the most DVR'd. Every single show on here has been in the double digits which means more people are watching it live while shows like Fringe, can only muster up 5 million viewers a week and gets the least DVR'd. Makes no sense.

Nini, people of below-average intelligence should not try to understand things like this. FRINGE is not the least DVR'd show. It's the 10th-TOP DVR'd show.

And Ted, it's "its," not "it's" when you are indicating a possessive. And the LOST finale WAS included, just not the REBROADCAST of the finale.

God, you people are just such idiots. Why do you even bother to try to understand these things?

Actually **** Mix you are the idiot. As clearly stated in the post the Lost finale was NOT accounted for because it was not airing in its regular timeslot.

haha looks like people are strating to fight again on ths boredlike the good ol times. Haha lol porr things. And that is The Turth. Haha who says that?

I taught that divet miss thang preacher the idiol had the day off. Just cant stay away can she? Haha lol porr, sad thin. So sad thang made meeow a "bad word." Just cant stand it when somone else is more fabulous can you Divet? Oh thats right lets just see you delet My poste. Haha lol por, sad thin.

Funny how Preta is just fudging the numbers, LOST finale was still LOST as far as I know, so to show lower numbers she just didnt include it. Sad, if it was Britney's Tampon Hahn writting this or Miss Make Up stories about Adam Lambert Andrea then I woulfd understand it, but no excuse for Preta since he is smarter than those two.
Poor thing!

I loved the ranking, thats right!!! greys anatomy should be the first one. I love it. especially Derek & Meredith .
