'Glee' ends on an up note; 'Pretty Little Liars' has pretty good start

shay-mitchell-pretty-little-liars-320.jpgThe season finale of "Glee" made the grade in the ratings.

Tuesday's (June 8) season ender scored about 11.1 million viewers and a 4.7 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, both of which are series highs for the show when it doesn't have "American Idol" as a lead-in. (The final same-day nationals are up a tick from the 10.92 million and 4.6 in the fast nationals.)

The episode also improved significantly on last week's installment, jumping by about 20 percent in total viewers and 18 percent in the 18-49 demo.

In the obscure-stats department, FOX also notes that "Glee's" 4.7 demo rating is the best for a first-year show's season finale in 2009-10.

- On cable, meanwhile, the debut of ABC Family's new series "Pretty Little Liars" did just OK in total viewers -- but very well among the young women who make up its target audience.

The premiere drew 2.5 million viewers, a middle-of-the-pack number for a scripted show on cable. But it was the cable channel's best series premiere ever among teenagers and adults 18-34 and among women of those ages. It's also the No. 2 ABC Family premiere in adults 18-49, behind only "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" two years ago.

Maybe the most impressive thing about the numbers for "Pretty Little Liars" is that among female teens, its 853,000 viewers Tuesday night were more than any other show on TV, including "Glee."

- Other notes from Tuesday's ratings: Game 3 of the NBA Finals scored just under 16 million viewers and a 6.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. So far each game of the Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics has improved on the previous one. "America's Got Talent" also held up well against the Finals and "Glee," drawing 13.1 million viewers for NBC.

Who cares about the teen girl demographic? The CW caters exclusively to them and they're consistantly the least watched network on TV. So, consider me less than impressed that more infantile teen girls watched this crap show over quality programming like Glee.

Exactly right Jenny. That's what people like Jetta and the hard-headed b1tch Rena Moretti don't understand. Advertisers don't pay on a total viewers basis; it's all about the demos! For ABC Family, they're selling teen girls and young adult women and doing a pretty good job in that regard.

@JettaJameson

Advertisers care, and I'm sure ABC family is happy with these numbers. After all they did better then many CW shows, and ABC family is a cable channel. That's actually pretty embarrassing for The CW. Go, Glee for awesome ratings as well.

CBS is for old people.

The guy/****/pig/SPLICEd together piece of filth that keeps pretending to be a girl writing this filth on this blog should go ahead come completely out of the closet and stop these pathetic and cowardly rants. You aren't fooling anyone. No one gives a damn about the shows you say are quality vs the shows and network you rant against everyday. People are still going to watch shows on the other networks whether you like it or not. Truth be told. Your filthy and pathetic rants really serve notice that you are a loon and the shows and network that ou champion the most must be complete garbage.

The fact that teen girls get obsessed over "artists" like Justin Bieber proves they're not worth paying attention to or wasting time catering to.

"quality programming like Glee"

LMAO, isn't that some kind of oxymoron??

dude (Jetta), Justin Bieber is not that bad. he's not some no-talent disney promoted pseudo-star, he came up on his own terms and thru his own way on youtube. he actually sings very well.

Sammi, it's ok. I realize Glee is too smart a show for you. Maybe something like Suite Life On Deck is more your speed? Since you clearly missed the memo, Glee has won awards at the Golden Globes, People's Choice and SAG awards and it'll soon win Emmy's. That qualifies it as quality programming. How dense are you? That was rhetorical, by the way. Do you know what that means?

I for one watched pretty little liars and I'm not a teen girl. I do also love Glee but my evil cable provider screwed up and fox had no sound on tuesday so I missed the finale. I don't think it needs to be either or, and as for Justin Bieber we were all young once and our opinion counted then as much as it does now.
