'Futurama' returns strong, Daytime Emmys up from 2009

"Futurama" wasn't very much worse for the wear after its long absence.The animated show, which last aired as a weekly series on FOX in 2003, drew solid ratings for its premiere on Comedy Central last week. The first of Thursday's (June 24) back-to-back episodes scored 2.9 million viewers, the network says. Among animated series on cable, only "South Park" has ever drawn a bigger audience for a season premiere.
The second episode drew just about as well with 2.8 million viewers. The premiere was also the most-watched show on TV Thursday night among young men, with the second episode right behind it.
- The Daytime Emmy Awards improved substantially on their ratings from last year, but they're still not a huge draw.
Sunday's (June 27) ceremony on CBS averaged 5.6 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49. It led its two-hour time period in viewers but trailed FOX's animation reruns and NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" in the demo.
The 5.6 million viewers was more than double the total for the 2009 Daytime Emmys, which aired on The CW in late August. It's also a slight improvement over the 2008 awards on ABC (5.4 million).
There is still a sizable gap, however, between the Daytime Emmys and the big awards shows. Last year's Primetime Emmys, for instance, drew 13.3 million viewers, while the 2010 Golden Globes scored 16.9 million people and the Grammys better than 26 million.

Considering it went against reruns of the FOX cartoons and lost, I'd say this was a bad showing for CBS and the awards show.
Actually, considering the show came back with no changes and the same formula, it kept it's core audience. It was super popular despite being cancelled, and now that it's back it's still popular. I won't credit that at all to a poor showing for FOX and CBS.
Well the daytime emmys werent really a celebration of daytime, they havent been for a long time. It's very cut throat (i know its strange to say) but their process is very political and all the networks save for NBC since it never airs on that network anymore have been known for blockvoting. Lots of viewers just don't tune in anymore. Most soaps now get 1.8-2.5 ratings for 18-49 and you can tell from the 1.1 rating that most just saw who won via twitter.
It's hard to compare the Daytime Emmy Awards program to the other awards programs, since they often air during sweeps months and this one airs during the summer, when most people are not watching TV.
@Katie and @Timmer- you both just backed up my argument. Thank you. Considering that no one is home during the summer and that audiences are thin, FUTURAMA STILL PREVAILED.
