Daytime Emmys 2010: Dick Clark's touching tribute

dick-clark-ryan-seacrest-320-getty.jpgLegendary host of "American Bandstand" Dick Clark was honored at the 2010 Daytime Emmys. His sort-of protege Ryan Seacrest gave a heartfelt introduction and then a plethora of stars were both on-hand to perform or had pre-taped a message.

The live performances by the Spinners, Chubby Checker, Marie Osmond and the cast of "Jersey Boys" were incredibly fun. Each artist did one of their own songs -- "Jersey Boys" did a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons song -- and then after the video messages, the group performed Barry Manilow's hit and the "American Bandstand" theme song, "Bandstand Boogie."

Video messages came in from Garth Brooks, Simon Cowell, Cher and Manilow himself, followed by Ryan Seacrest speaking with Dick Clark out in the audience. Clark, who was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and suffered a stroke in 2003, gave a small speech, though one could tell that speech is difficult for him. It was a touching tribute.

We'll post video as soon as we have it.

I can't wait to see it (15 minutes until the telecast even STARTS here)! I love D1ck Clark.

**** Clark Tribute was so wonderful and touching. I grew up forced to watch and dance to American Bandstand by my aunt whom I lived with when I was a child. Now I am so glad to be part of the **** Clark memories. Thank you **** Clark for the Memories and to my Aunt Avalina for making watch and dance to the **** Clark show every Saturday morning.I am so glad to see a Tribute given to someone so incredible while he is still with us.

Hmm, my post seems to have disappeared. I just said I can't wait to see the tribute. D1ck Clark has long deserved this recognition and tribute!

shame on zap2it and their censorship ...

Yep! As a child, on my Saturday mornings I always had a date with Bandstand. And, yes, **** Clark and Bandstand should be paid tribute while he's still here. He kept me informed about who was hot. He gave many people of all races a chance to show their talents.

**** Clark and AB were "Must See" TV for me way back in the fifties and sixties (when it came from Philly and was shown daily, after school). What great acts we all got to see and what great dance steps I learned!

D i c k Clark looked like death warmed over - it hurt to just even look at him - and Ryan Seacrest is just disgusting

Ginni must be a very miserable person to have only negative things to say. God Bless Mr Clark for all of his years of serving in the Music Business. Kudos to Ryan for carrying on the tradition and being so positive!

I Loved the Tribute to **** Clark and AMERICAN BANDSTAND(One of My FAVORITE TV Shows of All Time). It is an Honor Long, Long, Long Overdue. Without **** and BANDSTAND, We wouldn't have American Idol, Soul Train, MTV, VH1, BET, CMT, or any of the Dance and Music Shows we have today. GOD BLESS YOU **** CLARK!!! You are an American Treasure. I loved the Tributes, especially the heartfelt comments by Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Cher, and others.
