'Days of Our Lives' Suzanne Rogers remembers Frances Reid

suzanne-rogers-video.jpgThe June 25 episode of "Days of Our Lives" honors Frances Reid, who passed away on Feb. 3, 2010 after 40 years of playing the daytime drama's matriarch, Alice Grayson Horton. The clip-filled tribute episode, which eulogizes both the actress and the character, marks the return of many characters who will be familiar to long-time "Days of Our Lives" fans.

Zap2it recently caught up with Suzanne Rogers, who marks her 37th year on "Days of Our Lives" as Alice's daughter-in-law, Maggie Horton. "I hope I did her proud," Rogers says of the much-anticipated episode. She pauses for a moment as she fights tears. "It's very fresh, still."

Off-camera, the cast had a private memorial for Reid. "I got up and spoke," Rogers says. "I love this woman."

From the day Rogers showed up as Maggie, the injured farm girl, Reid welcomed her with open arms. "She knew I was out here by myself, my parents were on the east coast," Rogers tells us. "So it was like she kind of took me under her wing and gave me advice."

She laughs, remembering, "Sometimes she'd say, 'You're not going to wear your hair like that, are you?' or we would be having scenes together and she'd say something like, 'You gonna say it that way?'... We would talk about things. She loved to travel, and I hadn't traveled at all, so we had wonderful things to talk about in that aspect. She was just a great, great lady."

Days is doing an awesome job with the month long storyline and tribute to Frances Reid/Alice Horton, especially with the return of some old characters. I haven't enjoyed Days this much in a long time.

The friday episode of DOOL was so touching honoring frances reid who plsyed alice horton. she played her part so well and it felt like losing a family member. she will be missed. so good to see so many characters come back for the funeral.

Days Of Our Lives is the Very Best show on TV today. I have loved Alice Horton since I was a very little girl> I watched w/my Grandma, then my Mom, finally caught the fever. Then I raised my Daughter watching w/me. Over the years my own family has passed and dear Frances Reid was a carbon copy of my Grandma. When I heard on TV abouther passing, I burst into tears. Now I want to give it up for the writers and bringing the orginal cast members of theHorton Clan - Brillant, and it touch the entire, Days fan base. Days is the Only soap I watch, and I am glued to my life for that hour in front of the TV. Than k you for this wonderful tribute to Frances Reid. I still remember Tribute to Tom Horton. Good job, and you kept Kleenix in business.
Sincerely, Cathy Storm

The comment that Cathy Storm wrote is pretty much what I say about Days & the cast and especially Frances Reid. Ive cried over the years on different episodes, but yesterday (June 25, 2010) I bawled. It"s like a real life family and I tivo Days everyday and watch it at night when I get home from work, if for some reason it's not on (because of sports or something) I feel like something is missing out of my day. Alice Horton will be sadly missed.

While I think the actors did a fantastic Job, I felt the writing could have been better.. More Alice and less everything else.. I also wish the family had gathered around her more and that they were present when she passed, instead of just Maggie. Also too little of Hope and Jennifer, and no mention of Alices beloved Grandson Shawn Douglas.
All in all though the final scenes on Friday were veery moving. But the rest fell slightly short Im sad to say.

Just a great big thank you to the Corday family, writers and actors for the great tribute to Francis Reid. Alice was a great big part of Days of Our Lives and will alwalys live on in our hearts.

I have watch Days from day one and when it doesnt come on or is interupted by tenis or ect I get so mad I could scream. I say how dare them, my family just laughs but to me Everyone on Days is or seems part of my family they hurt I hurt. I'm going to miss grandma Horton. ya keep up the good work.
thanks for a great show.

Days of Our Lives. This soap had the best family presence. Beautiful people. They make you feel so close to them. Grandma and Grandpa Horton were both so very special. Very touching tribute. Just love that woman. Will miss them both. May they both rest in peace.

Your site has really been helpful to me and I thank you for your time and effort working on it. Good Luck! :)

I was very saddened by the death of Francis Reid. I have watched Days' since 1970 (I was 5 years old) my Grandmother and Aunt watched Days' from the very first air date in 1965. My heart goes out to not only her family, but to her Days' cast members and all that worked with her. Thank you Grandma Alice! We love you!
