'Criminal Minds': A.J. Cook may return -- briefly
"Criminal Minds" may not be completely done with A.J. Cook, but if the actress does return to the series, it won't be for long.News broke last week that the CBS crime drama was paring down its cast for the coming season, letting Cook go and possibly reducing the number of episodes in which Paget Brewster appears. The show may also introduce a new female character during the 2010-11 season.
"Minds" fans, to say the least, were not thrilled with the news of Cook's departure. "And programs wonder why they lose their audience," "This is bull!!!" and "I've already started an anti-new character page" were among the comments to Zap2it about the moves.
Despite the negative reaction, CBS and the show's producers aren't backing off the decision, which they've said was a way to "refresh" the show going into its sixth season. However, Deadline Hollywood reports that executive producer Ed Bernero is considering having Cook guest-star in an episode in the fall to put a cap on her character JJ's story.
Brewster, meanwhile, is still talking with CBS about cutting her number of episodes, Deadline says. She would remain a cast regular.

I'm still blaming Charlie Sheen for CBS' recent "cutting costs" antics.
I don't get it, they say it is to refresh Criminal Minds but with all the fans saying they aren't happy with Cook leaving, shouldn't that mean the show doesn't need a refresh, fans like the show just how it is?
lets be realistic, AJ and Paget's characters are pretty bland. I suspect noone would miss them by the 2nd episode of the new year. I'm glad they are keeping all of the other more important actors
I don't get it either. All this "refreshing" sounds like bull to me. Why get a new female cast member nobody wants? She probably won't have any chemistry with the rest of the group. Blah.
lets be realistic, AJ and Paget's characters are pretty bland. I suspect noone would miss them by the 2nd episode of the new year.
umm AJ and Pagets characters are not bland you obviously don't watch the show or dont ever pay attention when you are watching ... this decision is so stupid ... this will not refresh anything it will just kill the show ... but w/e ... i don't understand how theyre trying to have prentiss in least number of episodes and shes still going to be part of the team .. I don't know if the spin off got picked up .. but I hope it tanks! ... and i hope criminal minds does to without JJ .. oh well theres always the reruns and better shows... think that this is cbs's way of bringing the ratings down so that they could cancel it next season.
Well, it's a shame, but I'm not going to watch anymore if Paget is reduced and AJ gone. I prefer to watch strong women characters and if they can't give me that, they are the reason I turning increasingly to basic cable over network TV. You reap what you sow, CBS. Buh bye.
This whole thing is very disappointing not only the fact that they are treating theses respectable actresses like this, but that fact that CBS obviously doesn’t care about their viewers and they sure as hell don’t care about their viewers opinions, at least not for this show … because for CSI Miami they brought Delko back with no problems .. But hey since no one on this show has been in the big screen TV recently then who cares about these actors. I also will not be watching the new season and even if there is s season 8 I will not be watching that either. There’s plenty of other more respected shows on television. And this unfortunately isn’t one of them.
hey Anonymous your Anonymous for a reason huh ... i bet you work for CBS
When Law & Order CI changed casts, I quit watching...I expect that I will have to do the same thing if they get rid of Cook & Brerwster..."refresh"??? How about refreshing the dolts that make such decisions.
