Box Office: 'Toy Story 3' on record-breaking pace Friday
"Toy Story 3" opened to a whopping $41 million on Friday, June 18 -- putting it on pace to post the biggest opening weekend box office ever for an animated movie. Its opening night numbers nearly doubled the opening-night gross of the 2009 movie "Up.""The Karate Kid" was bumped to second place and took in $8.9 million on Friday, while "The A-Team" was bumped to third with $4.2 million. "Shrek Forever After" was in fourth place with $2.5 million.
Rounding out the top 5 was the only other new release to in the top group -- "Jonah Hex," the action-western starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox. It pulled in a paltry $2 million on opening night.

Umm isn't it Josh Brolin who stars in the movie, not his father James?
It's about time...a excellent movie shines...
Saw Jonah Hex and it was pretty good. I liked it better than the A-team. A shame its doing so bad.
Word of mouth may save it.
Sideshow AL, given that Jonah Hex currently sits at a 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, don't count on the word of mouth being positive. It's gonna crash and burn.
I'm seeing Toy Story 3 tomorrow and I could not be more excited!
JettaJameson, don't count on Toy Story 3 being the number one movie of the summer. It dropped like an anchor in the ocean on Saturday(down 5 million from Friday). And with Sunday being Father's Day it will probably take another hit as REAL word of mouth outside the internet fanboy world is much, much more subdued. After this fanboy driven weekend is done, expect it to crash and burn. I've consulted with several people in the know and there's a little movie called, The Last Airbender, that is being touted as the breakout hit of the summer that will blow audiences away!
