The irascible "American Idol" judge received a huge, heartwarming send-off during the ninth season finale and he's also slated to receive an international Emmy award.

Now the BAFTAs have jumped on the Cowell bandwagon. They've announced that they'll honor him with a "Special Award" during their Philips British Academy Television Awards on Sunday, June 6 for his "in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the television entertainment industry and commitment to new talent."

Although stateside we know Cowell mainly for "Idol," he's been working his TV magic in the UK for a while now.

"Cowell's two ITV series, 'The X Factor' and 'Britain's Got Talent,' are currently the most-watched shows on British television, with last year's audiences peaking at more than 19 million for each show," reads a post on the BAFTAs site. "In today's multichannel world where viewers are spoiled for choice, these are heights that a modern TV programme rarely achieves.

"He has also become a great ambassador for British television. 'Britain's Got Talent' was the fastest selling format worldwide at the end of the noughties and now airs in more than 40 countries. 'The X Factor' is shown in 26 countries."
