'American Idol': Paula Abdul thinks Bret Michaels would be 'awesome'

Paula Abdul has given Bret Michaels her thumbs-up to take Simon Cowell's spot at the judging table on "American Idol.""I think he would be awesome at it, because you've got to have a passion and love for music," Abdul told Usmagazine.com before the Tony Awards on Sunday (June 13). "It takes somebody who really, really understands young people to try to make the magic happen in those 30 seconds. [Michaels] would fit the mold perfectly."
Michaels was a surprise guest on the May 26 season finale of "Idol," performing a duet of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" with third-place finisher Casey James. Since then Michaels, who won "The Celebrity Apprentice" in May just a few weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage, has become a much buzzed-about candidate to replace Cowell, who departed the show to launch an American version of his show "The X Factor" in the fall of 2011.
Abdul says that while she knows someone will be taking her buddy Cowell's spot on the show, she hesitates to use the word "replacement."
"They broke the mold after Simon," she tells Us. "I don't think he could ever be replaced. There should be no comparison."
Abdul herself will be judging and executive producing a CBS show called "Got to Dance," which debuts sometime next year.
FOX and the "Idol" producers will most likely announce their choice to fill Cowell's spot this summer; auditions are scheduled to begin in September.

Yes! Paula's right -- Bret Michaels is the best choice as American Idol judge!
If Paula had any love at all for Simon, she would not name or endorse ANY replacement for him. Just the fact that she thinks the show can survive without him is a slap in the face to someone she calls a friend, and the fact that she thinks Bret Michaels, who can't even begin to hold a candle to Simon, would be a good replacement, is an even harder slap. Shame on you, Paula. The correct response is that Simon WAS American Idol, and without him, the show is done.
GENE SIMMONS would be the perfect fit for Simon's seat!! Experienced.......Duh? Possibly rude.....Duh? Bring new viewers in.....Duh?
