'American Idol' Lee DeWyze signs his record contract

lee-dewyze-idol0524.jpg"American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze is officially a recording artist.

As has been the case with previous "Idol" winners, DeWyze has signed a contract with 19 Recordings/RCA Records. He'll start recording his debut album in the near future; the label says it's scheduled for release in the fall.

"Looking back on the last few months and all I gained from my experience on American Idol, it is incredible to know that this is only the beginning for me," DeWyze says. "Being signed by 19 Entertainment/RCA Records is a dream come true. I know that by working with them, I have the support that will allow me to record the best possible album I can."

DeWyze -- who sang the national anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday -- will record his album during breaks from this summer's "Idol" tour. He and his fellow top 10 contestants will kick the tour off in Auburn Hills, Mich., on July 1 and hit more than 50 cities before wrapping up in mid-September.

His first single, a cover of U2's "Beautiful Day," debuted at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week. It's also No. 12 on the Digital Songs chart.

How is this news? Isn't it part of the deal that the winner gets a record deal? I guess the news would have been if he COULDN'T get a record deal!!!

Can hardly wait. Most of all for Lee to write some of his own music and put it out for all of us to enjoy.

That man has soul. And he can sing. Together that makes quite a combination.

Good! I look forward to Lee's album.
While I most anticipate Siobhan Magnus as the one who can be a true star someday...she has some work to do to better focus on what music will be unique to her, and more work with a coach on fixing some flaws still going along with Magnus's seriously remarkable vocal abilities. Worth the wait to get it right - but she is already doing some outstanding stuff..like Lee..better in studio. (Though unlike Lee, her live work on Idol ranged from magificent to train crash) I downloaded 4 of Siobhans songs - the best IMO, was "When You Believe" that shows just how good a vocalist she is in studio. But I also downloaded two Lee iTunes, and Crystals "Long As I Can See the Light".

But Lee's ready now.
I have a friend who is a bigger Lee fan and I sampled some "Slumberland" songs. I in turn became a bigger Lee fan. It's current, fresh music and how he sang on a reality TV show is largely irrelevant to what he does in studio..where he does good stuff.

I also will track Casey James and would really consider buying his stuff and attending a Casey concert. And keep an eye on Crystal and Aaron (him though, he has years before he might have a shot).
Can't stand Michael Lynche.
And Didi Benami is really good in her small singing range - very listenable. A limited range is no cardinal sin - it's what you can do in it that makes some less talented vocalists into successful performing artists.

Didn't that girl joanna from american idol last year get kicked out because she was already signed to a record deal? So why can Lee Dewyze be allowed to be on Idol?
