'American Idol': Ellen DeGeneres' 'lesbian-one-liners' to blame for ratings decline, says Christian Newswire
Everyone has their theory on why "American Idol's" ratings dropped this season.Could it be that Season 9's contestants were snoozers? Or that Simon Cowell was over this season before it started and nearly put us to sleep with his bored, empty stares and lackluster commentary? Or how about this season's lack of the ever-amusing "Is she off her meds again?" antics of Paula Abdul.
Well, the Christian Newswire's Gary McCullough has his own theory on "American Idol's" declining ratings: Ellen DeGeneres is a lesbian.
McCullough brags in a recent post that he called the ratings drop back in January:
"I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue."
He points out one "lesbian-one-liner" as an example of the type of comments he believes brought the show's ratings crashing down. McCullough recounts Ellen's "Yes, I have loved a woman" comment from the May 11th show, and he says it's this kind of remark that has spurred moms and dads everywhere to turn the channel -- since "the subtle promotion of an 'alternate lifestyle' to their kids was not worth the entertainment trade off."
Umm ... "the subtle promotion of an 'alternate lifestyle'"? Do we have to remind McCullough of the flirty/suggestive/awkward banter that Cowell and Ryan Seacrest have been carrying on with for years now?
McCullough wraps up his oh-so-enlightening article with a line he probably wrote with a proud snicker:
"Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have 'Dancing with the Stars' seat Roman Polanski as a judge."
Hmm ... we're glad you brought up "Dancing With the Stars," Gary. It just so happens that this reality show scored some of its highest ratings ever this season ... with the very openly gay Bruno Tonioli on the judge panel. We guess all the "wholesome" folks watching "DWTS" didn't get the gay memo.
Furthermore, "The Ellen DeGeneres" show does just fine in the ratings, and Ellen has openly referenced her wife Portia de Rossi on her show more than a few times -- to a room full of soccer moms who have flown from all over the country just to sit in her studio audience.
Sorry, Gary, but we're just not buying your theory.
What do YOU think about the Christian Newswire's assessment that Ellen's sexual orientation caused "Idol's" ratings decline?

Well, the ratings certainly dropped for the bigot demographic.
oh jeez..this is the downside to free speech folks.
No it's not about gay judges/contestants. It's about the judges pimping certain contestants they want to be in the finals, bad picking of contestants to be on the show, need judges that have experience with music & can critique better and most of all it's the tweens & soccer moms voting 900 times each for the cutest & most adorable male. Then when its over they might buy one CD for their 900 votes. I think they need to charge a $1.00 a vote or limit it to one vote per caller. This would stop the tweens from voting 900 times.
This tween is 56 years old. I must have hit redial 8 times to vote. As for Ellen, she was the only good spot on the show.
Oh yeh, go ahead, blame the gay party! Come on Gary, have you no shame? Stop being so bitter & narrow minded man. Get with the times will you.
Typically, the gays are to blame for everything. Again. Or the Jews or the Muslims or the Atheists.
Strange how morons are to blame for nothing, isn't it?
If we can all put our snark aside for a minute Ellen may have had something to do with the decline - she was a weak judge - a nice supportive person but a weak judge & maybe some people didnt like that she was gay and that could have cut into their ratings too - but i think it was more - the four judges, Simon leaving and the contestants all had something to do with it too - i dont think it was any one thing.
I AGREE WIH THE CHRISTIAN NEWSWIRE'S ASSESMENT. I, FOR ONE, STOPPED WATCHING. ELLEN IS A BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED WOMAN, AND COULD GET HELP BY GIVING HER HEART TO JESUS. ALL OF US SHOULD.
THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FIT FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. THERE ARE TOO MANY BAD INFLUENCES OUT THERE ALREADY....WE DON'T NEED TO CHOOSE ANOTHER ONE OUR TELEVISION SET.
Some people always have to try to fit the world into their own preconceived little boxes, and nothing anyone can say will make them think otherwise. In this guy's mind, gay equals bad, so it must all be Ellen's fault.
Not to mention, it gets this guy attention, which I'm guessing he craves.
I find it hard to believe a true Christian would spend their time hating and placing blame where it doesn't belong. He should be happy there is love in the world, and stop trying to destroy it.
I find it interesting that the purported Christians are the ones who have resorted to mostly/all capital responses. If they are so sure of their beliefs, why do they need to shout? Apparently they don't know their Bibles either. They are using the Old Testament to condone bigotry and prejudice, just like they used it to support slavery at one point in time. Yet they don't seem to follow the teachings of Christ as found in St. Matthew where Christ states that, if I may paraphrase, as we treat the lowest among us, we have treated Him. So I guess this is the way these folks would treat Jesus.
Ellen has little, if anything to do with the drop in ratings for Idol. Has anyone considered how long the program has been on the air? There might be a fatigue factor involved as well.
