The special, which will air at 9 p.m. ET Monday (June 21), will raise money for three charities: The United Way, the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy. The United Way is providing emergency help for people whose livelihoods are affected by the spill and is developing long-term plans to help the region recover economically; both the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy are involved in cleanup efforts.
Among the celebrity participants in the telethon are Gulf Coast natives Harry Connick Jr., Aaron Neville, Tim McGraw, Ian Somerhalder and James Carville. Carville's wife, Mary Matalin, Alyssa Milano, Sting, Robert Redford, Ted Danson, Melania and Ivanka Trump, Chelsea Handler, Jenny McCarthy, Lenny Kravitz, Pete Wentz, Tyson Ritter, Edward James Olmos and Philippe Cousteau have also pledged their help.
Ryan Seacrest has also said he'll be helping out, but he's not on CNN's initial list of celeb participants.

its sad that we have to clean this
mess up ourselves because of yet
another greedy company and an
inept government who could care
less unless they are getting paid.
Why are only the second-rate celebs doing the telethon? Where's Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, the cast of Glee, etc?
In what universe are Miley Cyrus, the Glee folks and Justin Bieber top-rate celebs???? Come on....
About time dome of these celebrities get off their butts and help the USA
These telethons are getting ridiculous! Every year its something else! While it is nice to help, I don't have any extra money to spend.
Their hearts are in the right place, but this is a man made disaster. The ones responsible (BP) should pay, not the public. Especially, when over 10% of the country are still out of work.
Shouldn't it say 8pm and not 9pm?
Thanks to all who are helping out with this terrible tragedy. A special "Thank You" to Ian Somerhalder whose tireless efforts to bring attention to this disaster has touched the hearts of all fellow Louisianians.
Hey, Rick: Who's "Rihcard Simmons" :-)
I thought Obama has gotten BP to start a $20 Billion slush fund? Those little tar balls that are washing up on the beaches should be called "Obama Balls" :(
