Report: 'Heroes' canceled. Us: Well, yeah.

heroes-320.jpgDon't hold your breath waiting for the announcement of "Heroes" Season 5 when NBC rolls out its schedule for 2010-11.

There's still an outside chance for some sort of loose-ends-tying movie or miniseries, but it's looking like "Heroes" is done as a series, according to Vulture. The news comes after its lowest-rated season yet -- it averaged a little over 6.5 million viewers for its 19-episode run, less than half of what it drew (14.4 million) in its first year on the air in 2006-07. The season finale on Feb. 8 drew only 4.4 million viewers for its first-run airing.

NBC has been coy about the show's chances for renewal, with network entertainment chief Angela Bromstad saying as recently as Monday (May 10) that she "wouldn't count anything out" in regard to its future. But really, bringing the show back in the face of badly slumping ratings hardly makes sense.

The network has already picked up six new series for next season, along with freshman show "Parenthood" and all of its Thursday comedy block. With "The Biggest Loser" and "Law & Order: SVU" likely to return as well and chances for "Chuck" looking decent, there's not a ton of room on the schedule. And as Vulture points out, it's probably a better idea to put promotion behind new shows than an aging show that's lost audience every year it's been on the air.

For those remaining "Heroes" fans, it does appear that NBC will take a look at some sort of series wrapup. Details may be forthcoming when NBC unveils its lineup Sunday and Monday (May 16-17).

I've been confirm that Heroes Season Four the final year of course comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on July 27.

Great Heroes down - next stop Chuck!!!

Chuck has been on the air for three seasons and is still 'on the bubble' - how is a fourth season going to be any different.

Wouldn't NBC be better off commissioning a new series that could blossom into a bona fide hit rather than sticking with a show that, let's be honest, is a cult hit at best.

Here's a piece I wrote on the full Chuck saga...

In spite of its erratic quality at times I shall miss Heroes. It's one of the few scifi shows on the networks.Instead I will count on NBC,as well as the other networks,to deluge us in the fall with police, medical, legal hour dramas & sitcoms of course. In other words:Same old stuff.

I will miss Heroes. It may not have been the best show, but it was entertaining nonetheless. And I found the last season to be really great. I pray for a miniseries or two-hour wrap-up.

Considering what this network did with Las Vegas I am not holding my breath for a wrap up for Heroes. Shame, this was the only thing I watched on NBC anymore.

I will miss it. Fourth season was damn entertaining but I stopped watching in favour of a better show but I'll still catch it all on DVD.

Flaws yes but quite enjoyable!

All I have to say is, good riddance. The show has been getting worse by the season, and predictably, less and less people are watching it. I tuned out myself midway through Season 4. This may not get NBC out of 4th place, but it's a step in the right direction.

These ******** at NBC are willing to do a wrap-up for some garbage show like Heroes, but they wouldn't even bother wrapping up the loose ends for Las Vegas, which performed better in the ratings than this show ever did in its 4 seasons on the air. NOTHING BUT CRAP!

'bout time!!!! :)

'Heroes' is my favorite show, and the one and only show I watch on NBC. I can't believe they just end shows the way they do i.e if Heroes is canceled 'Heroes', 'Las Vegas'. Two great shows, and 'Las Vegas' ended in one of the worse cliffhangers ever. Just when I thought NBC couldn't tick me more. Heroes can be top 1-16 in TV Guide top 100 shows on TV Guide for years but NBC keeps shows like well I couldn't even name another show on NBC.
