'Parks and Recreation' pushed to midseason on NBC

nick-offerman-amy-poehler-parks-and-rec.jpgThe cast and crew of "Parks and Recreation" are filming the show's third season now -- but the results of their work won't be seen until next year.

When NBC announced its schedule for the fall on Sunday (May 16), "Parks and Rec" wasn't on it. The network is launching a new comedy called "Outsourced" with returning shows "Community," "30 Rock" (which is moving to 8:30 p.m. from 9:30) and "The Office" and holding "Parks and Rec," along with three more new comedies, "Friends with Benefits," "The Paul Reiser Show" and "Perfect Couples," for midseason.

"It was one of the toughest decisions we had to make" in putting the schedule together, NBC chairman Jeff Gaspin says. He adds that holding it is no comment on the quality of the show and says it will be back in the Thursday rotation later in the season.

"Parks and Rec" began work on its third season right after wrapping the second to accommodate star Amy Poehler's pregnancy. The decision to push the show back, however, isn't related to that -- NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad says the network asked the show to keep shooting to allow for "maximum flexibility" in putting together the schedule. "Parks and Rec" co-creator Mike Schur also tweeted Sunday that "this is NOT because of Amy's pregnancy."

The show is filming six episodes for Season 3 before going on a production hiatus. Poehler and her husband, Will Arnett, are expecting their second child in the summer, and she'll return to work following her maternity leave.

"Outsourced," the show that's replacing "Parks and Rec" in the Thursday comedy block in the fall, is about a middle manager (Ben Rappaport) who's sent to India to train the new employees of his company's call center.

It'll be years before NBC fixes that disaster they call there Thursday night line up.

That's weird. I'm pretty sure the Thursday night line up is the only thing on NBC that's worth a damn.

They should have kept Parks and cut The Office. I used to love The Office till every episode had breastfeeding jokes in it. This season is terrible.

What fools! That is the funniest show on NBC. My friends and I have grown to LOVE IT! Also, if Parks & Recreation started at 8 or 9pm more people would catch it as many people flipping through channels get caught up in what starts on the hour, which is often hour-long dramas, so they miss Parks.

Being pushed back to midseason status is a signal that Parks and Recreation has one foot in the grave. Poor Rob Lowe! He jumped off a slowly sinking ship and directly into a pool of shark infested waters.

only reasons to watch NBC, Community, Chuck, and The Office (although Office is losing steam)

Really, Alex?? The Thursday night lineup is the only thing NBC has been doing right. After their only success story since Friends (Heroes) fizzled, the whole Leno @ 10 debacle, and more or less being a punching bag throughout the past year, the one thing they have consistently had right is the Thursday night lineup. 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Community are all some of the strongest comedies to air on NBC in some time.

That's a bummer, it's gotten much better this season. I watched the first season, but it wasn't that funny. They really made me a fan in season 2. Much as I hate to admit it, it's been funnier than The Office this season.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! NBC MOVES THEIR BEST COMEDY TO MIDSEASON??? Parks is the best show on tv. By far.

Who is running NBC? Parks has definetly gotten better this season and the characters are starting to take off. Personally I think it is stronger than Community. They really feel we want to watch a sitcom about outsourcing jobs to India? Is it The Office in India? How tone deaf can these guys be?
