'Off the Map' peek: ABC's medical drama hops to South America
After "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," ABC has brought on another Shonda Rhimes-backed medical drama, but this time it's going international."Off the Map" stars Caroline Dhavernas ("Wonderfalls") as the idealistic Dr. Lily Brenner, who begins work at an understaffed medical clinic in "la ciudad de las estrellas," a tiny town in the South American jungle.
Along with fellow doctors Mina Minard (Mamie Gummer) and Manny Diaz (Enrique Murciano), they aid the legendary Dr. Ben Keeton (Martin Henderson) in treating patients with whatever they have at hand, under challenging circumstances.
We're not entirely sure if we need another medical drama on the air, but this is no typical medical drama as seen by this first clip. It's rather refreshing to see this kind of action outside of our own frame of reference.
Warning: This isn't for the squeamish.

Caroline Dhavernas- only reason for me to watch
Ditto - I've been a big fan of Dhavernas since Wonderfalls, and I'm definitely watching her return to American television. Odds are, she'll end up the best thing about the show.
watching this only because of Jaye Tyler -- caroline dhavernas
yes...yes...yes...finally she's back in an american-produced show
I think this will do well loved it want more
Yay...CD is back. Never forgive FOX for underpromoting and cancelling Wonderfalls. Can't wait to see her.
So they're combinging "Lost" with "Grey's Anatomy?"
Am I the only one that recalls a similar show from about 20 years ago(I'm going to assume yes)called "Going To Extremes",which had an almost exact premise? Doctors/med students on an island or small island caring for the locals? It started Gil Bellows(Ally MacBeal) and Ericka Alexander(Cosby Show)and was, basically,"Northern Exposure" in the tropics.
Obviously (Greg) you never watched Lost at all if you think this is going to be like it....
Looks alot like Going to Extremes with a pinch of Greys Anatomy.... we'll see...
These few clips look promising, however, I do hope that this show doesn't turn into a sex crazed, soap opera like Grey's Anatomy did. If they keep this show "clean", without all the sleeping around drama, it should be good. I liked Grey's Anatomy for the first two seasons, then it got soooooooo raunchy, I couldn't stand it anymore. A good show doesn't need that kind of crude, filler trash!
