'Modern Family' fans want to know: Where's the gay kissing?

cam-mitchell-no-kiss.jpgOn "Modern Family," gay couple Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) are madly in love, and they have an adorable baby... but in almost an entire season, we haven't seen them exchange a single kiss. With only two episodes left until fall, the lack of physical affection between the pair has raised a few eyebrows.

Fans even started a Facebook campaign in the name of a Cam/Mitchell smooch. Hey, it worked for Betty White! Jesse Tyler Ferguson even tweeted a link to the profile, writing, "I will sign it if you will too!"

In the May 5 episode, titled "Airport 2010," the issue was highlighted when Claire and Phil were reunited at the same time Cam and Mitchell were. The straight couple shared a kiss, while the two men hugged it out, as seen in the screen-grab above.

Fed up with the controversy, the "Modern Family" producers issued a statement to AfterElton. "Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed, and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series. It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell's slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax."

ABC has proven itself to be a gay-friendly network, with shows like "Brothers & Sisters" and "Ugly Betty" representing the gay community well. Still, we think it's about time.

About time someone used the word "chillax" in a press statement, that is.

Yuck! I don't want to see that!

I'm pretty sure that the kiss had already happened if they were both atracttive.. I dont think it is a matter of gay or not but a matter of looks...

I'm not watching anything on Gay-B-C.

Hummmm. It is ABC and they have had Gay Couple's kiss before. SO I do not think it is a big deal. They are the best thing about Modern Family.

Wow! 2 blatantly homophobic comments and 1 rude comment on the attractiveness of the actors.

Gotta love humans -- so many douchebags among us!

I don't think not wanting to see two men kiss really makes one homophobic. I like the show and I like their characters on the show, but yeah, I don't want to see them kiss either.

guess that`s explains it all

well that explains it all

The sooner you folks get used to gay folks and gay affection, the sooner we'll learn more tolerance. We'd have fewer gay bashings, less name calling, less teen suicides and fewer Matthew Shepard incidents. As a gay man, I've had to tolerate straight people being affectionate and kissing in public and on screen my entire life (talk about flaunting it!). It makes me sick, cause it's not something I'd want to do, but I've learned to accept it. I understand that those are cases of people or characters who love each other. Just like Cameron and Mitchell. These are beautiful characters who deserve to share their love for one another and engage in displays of affection. and I look forward to the episode where they will finally kiss. You've seen hundreds of TV shows and movies with scenes where people hurt or kill someone. You should learn to be tolerant of a kiss. Open your hearts and minds, people. It's not going to kill you. I promise.

@ Duh -- I noticed you didn't say you don't want to see the heterosexual couples kissing. So yes, not wanting to see the gay couple kissing does make you homophobic.
