'Lost' finale grows by a half-hour

evangeline-lilly-lost-s6.jpgThe "Lost" goodbye will take a little longer than previously thought.

ABC is expanding the show's series finale on May 23 by a half-hour. The episode will now run from 9 to 11:30 p.m. ET, pushing affiliates' local news back by a half-hour (given the likely bigger-than-usual lead-in, they probably won't mind too much). The "Jimmy Kimmel Live" special celebrating the finale in turn is pushed back to 12:05 a.m.

"Lost" executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wrapped up post-production work on the finale on Monday (May 3) and issued identical tweets when they did: "We're done. Amen." The final episode came in long, and rather than cut it or the recap special that precedes it, ABC decided to extend the show.

For those of you keeping score, that means you will now have 5 1/2 hours of "Lost"-related programming on May 23. A two-hour retrospective on the show begins at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the finale and Kimmel's one-hour special. ABC is also re-airing the show's pilot (it's an "enhanced" version, with pop-up factoids) on Saturday, May 22.

That's a whole lot of "Lost" in 48 hours -- will it be enough for you to say goodbye?

I guess they need that extra half-hour to explain how the "V" came to the Island in the first place.

yay. :)

I think it was a stroke of genius to put this programming on Sunday night. Most young professionals -- who are Lost's target demo -- are unable to watch Lost live because they are too busy -- at work or in class -- and can't watch it until later -- by DVR, etc. On Sunday night, many, many more of them will be able to watch it live.

Rena, thats because DVR's were much less popular back in Lost's first season. Look at the DVR numbers now. Lost gets the biggest viewer increase than any other show.

I am told Rena is a **** who has no idea what she is talking about.

Lost used to be a bona fide hit in its first season, the only hit J.J. Abrams ever produced by the way, but it fell down sharply afterwards and talk of "target demos" "high-DVR usage" etc... started as their audience started shrinking.

ABC pulled all stops to re-launch Lost one last time and it really didn't work too well (I am told production values also sank this season).

Maybe it will work for the frantically hyped-up finale.

no more lost >:(

soon it will only be dancing with the freaks.. singing with the freaks... carnival performances with the freaks.... fat people crying because they are getting thinner... the V monologues... Glay... that acidtrip scientist show on fox... 82 different CSI police propaganda shows ... 18 different Medical Propaganda shows...

TheCW's ratings may actually get past a .093 share next fall..

Sad

No lost
no 24

just Glayness

Someone please give Rena a job so the rest of us can just chat about tv? Wonder who told her "production values also sank this season"- yuck! On point, I can't believe we are not going to have "Lost", ""24", "Saving Grace" et al...and all ending at one time.. may need to go to rehab!

Sadly, that extra half hour will likely result in about 20 minutes more of commercials.

At the rate they are killink charaters off (4 yesterday).. will any characters be left for the finale :)
