Jimmy Kimmel's Simon Cowell video tribute: 'He has a special way of telling us that we suck'
After expressing his thoughts on just how bad this season of "American Idol" was and how he's glad it's over (tell us how you really feel, Jimmy!), Jimmy Kimmel at least had a few good things to say about Simon Cowell. Kind of."I think he's funny, and I think he has a special way of telling us that we suck," Kimmel said during his opening monologue Wednesday night (May 26). "Now the only people we have left to yell at us are Judge Judy and Dr. Phil, and that's not enough."
Wednesday was of course Cowell's last day as a judge on "American Idol," and Kimmel remarked about the impact the infamous insult-spewing Brit has had on reality programming.
"Because of Simon, every reality show on television has a snotty British judge," said Kimmel. And he's pretty much right. "Dancing with the Stars" has Len Goodman, "So You Think You Can Dance" has Nigel Lythgoe, "America's Got Talent" has Piers Morgan. Then there's Gordon Ramsay, who doesn't sit on a judge panel, but we still love to watch the British chef hurl insults left and right on "Hell's Kitchen."
"I believe Simon Cowell is the key to 'American Idol's' enormous success over the years, and I think they're going to miss him," said Kimmel, right before introducing a video tribute to a man truly gifted at handing out criticism that kept us amused for nine seasons.
We'll miss you, Simon!
