'Grey's Anatomy': Ellen Pompeo leaving! (In two years. Maybe)

OMG Ellen Pompeo wants to leave "Grey's Anatomy" too! ... is the drama-baiting spin on an interview the star gave this week.

The reality isn't quite that exclamation point-worthy. Speaking with "Extra," Pompeo says she would probably be done with the show when her current contract runs out. That doesn't happen until 2012, at the end of what would be the show's eighth season.

"I haven't said I'm moving on," Pompeo says. "I said that when my contract is up after Season 8, I would probably not renew."

That, to us, sounds a lot more like what Steve Carell recently said about "The Office" recently than the "Grey's" cold war earlier this season that resulted in Katherine Heigl exiting the show to pursue her movie career.

"I think I [will have] told all the stories I can tell as Meredith Grey," Pompeo tells "Extra." "Who knows? I never say never to anything. But I've told a lot of Meredith Grey stories. I think the world has had a lot of Meredith Grey."

That seems like an eminently reasonable position to take. And given all the off-screen shenanigans that have happened on "Grey's" over the years, that may be the real news.
