'Friday Night Lights' acquired by ABC Family
Coach Taylor, the Panthers, and the Lions have found yet another new home at ABC Family. The network has tentative plans to begin airing reruns of "Friday Night Lights," beginning with Season 1, in September. ABC Family has rights to all five seasons."We're thrilled to add NBC's critically-acclaimed series 'Friday Night Lights' to the mix of our defining original and quality acquired series," says ABC Family's Tom Zappala. "The series is beloved by critics and viewers, and fits in perfectly with ABC Family's blend of optimistic, heartfelt programming."
Season 4 of "FNL" is currently airing on NBC, after already airing on DirecTV in the fall. Though critically acclaimed, the show -- which stars Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, and Taylor Kitsch -- hasn't been successful in the ratings. ABC Family hopes to introduce the series "to a whole new audience segment where the series can thrive in its new environment."
NBC has confirmed that the show's 13-episode fifth season, which begins filming in Austin this summer, will be the last. It is expected to begin airing on DirecTV in the fall of 2010 and on NBC in the spring of 2011.
