'Anchorman 2' isn't happening, leaks director
According to Will Ferrell's producing partner, Adam McKay, the studio isn't going to fork over the money for a sequel.
"So bummed," tweeted McKay. "Paramount basically passed on 'Anchorman 2.' Even after we cut our budget down. We tried."
Movieline reports that Paramount asked McKay to cut the budget. McKay lowered the budget and even convinced stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd to return at reduced salaries. Yet, the studio still passed.
We wonder if taking this public was McKay's way of putting pressure on Paramount. It's a typical move in Hollywood to leak news to get public support when a deal is at a stalemate. Plus, it seems Paramount is "Anchorman 2's" only avenue.
"To all who asked," McKay followed up on Twitter. "No we can't do 'Anchorman 2' at another studio. Paramount owns it."
Do you think McKay played his cards right by taking this public?

This is good news.....right?
Anchorman was and still is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I hope they can bring back the team and make another one.
Alex, no it's not good news because the first movie was pretty good. Hopefully this does convince Paramount to do a sequel. Maybe they are worried because Will Ferrell has been pretty hit and miss with his last few movies. "Land of the Lost" was a massive bomb. It has a budget of $100 million plus a marketing budget over $40 million ($40 million in US + unknown for rest of the world), but the movie only grossed $69.5 million worldwide.
I'll pay to have this movie made. Anchorman is frickin' hilarious.
Do studios not know what's good anymore? Hey, I got it. Let's release another crappy movie with Zac Efron, Jennifer Lopez or Kate Hudson instead...LOSERS!!!
yea that a good thing i think
