'American Idol's' Melinda Doolittle: Lee Dewyze is 'favorite,' Harry Connick should judge

"American Idol" finalist Melinda Doolittle is busy promoting her book "Beyond Me" and embarking on a nationwide book tour in the month of May, but she still finds time to tune in to "Idol." She tells Zap2it about her Season 9 favorites and agrees with us that Harry Connick Jr. would make an excellent replacement for Simon Cowell.
So you've watched "Idol" Season 9?
Oh, yes. I have this great thing called a Slingbox so I don't even have to be in town to watch it, I can be anywhere and watch it on my computer. Last night was huge for me, I love Harry Connick Jr. He became so much more of my hero after last night, I can't even ... it was awesome.
Do you have any favorites on the show?
I really loved Didi Benami, loved her. It was so hard for me to see her go home. I was the same way about Alex Lambert because I felt like he was a diamond in the rough. Lee is my favorite that's still on the show. I like Lee better [than Crystal] and last night just sealed the deal for me. Oh my goodness. I put it on my Twitter and Facebook!
How do you feel about the show losing judge Simon Cowell?
It's hard for me to imagine. Simon was such an integral part of my experience and my journey. I definitely talk about him a lot in the book because he was really one of my cheerleaders and one of my champions while I was on the show. I am really gonna miss him on the show. I'm not sure how it's gonna go but after seeing Harry Connick Jr...
We think Harry Connick Jr. would be an excellent replacement!
Yes, he's someone who understands the entire process. He can do everything. Up until last night I really did not think it was possible to replace Simon but Harry Connick Jr. made a believer out of me.

i disagree with melinda doolittle. lee is ok... but crystal is good, in my opinion. and no-one can ever replace simon. i also dont like harry connick jr. i thought he made idol worse last night. he wanted all the attention for himself.
i didnt even care for melinda doolittle when she was on american idol. and frank sinatra,s songs were hard to sing. i never liked frank sinatra.
After watching last nights Frank Sinatra theme, my opinions jumped right along to what Melinda said--Harry Connick Jr. would be a perfect replacement for Simon--good looking, knows what he's saying about music, and not so hateful as Simon. I will also add that Shania Twain would be wonderful too--what a pair they would make! I like Ellen OK and think she has done her best as a judge, but she would shine as a new hostess--replacing Ryan! Kara has been beter this season than last, so now all you need is one more male judge who possibly is a music producer, or ???? Not just a singer. There, let's just wipe the slate clean and bring fresh new faces to next season so people will stop griping and have fun watching again!
