'American Idol's' Clay Aiken on new album: 'An opportunity to be myself'

clay-aiken-tried-and-true.jpg"American Idol" Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken's new album "Tried and True" drops Tuesday, June 1. The album will feature covers of the classic tunes "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "What Kind of Fool Am I?," "It's Only Make Believe," "Misty," "Mack the Knife," "It's Impossible," "Unchained Melody," "Suspicious Minds," "Crying," "There's a Kind of Hush" and "Moon River."

He tells Entertainment Tonight, "There are a lot of elements to this album that are about me returning to what I'm comfortable with. To me, older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful. So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself."

Clay will also be setting off on a new tour this summer alongside his Season 2 fellow finalist Ruben Studdard. The tour kicks off July 23 in Asheville, NC and ends Aug. 14 in Biloxi, MS. Tickets are on sale now.

You could save a bunch of typing if you just use his name.

I'm excited to get Clay's new album of classic standards. I've heard clips and they are very good, as is the retro look. He's grown up very nicely.

The snippets I have heard are great. Clay sings the classics beautifully. Can't wait for the CD to drop on June 1, his tour this summer and his PBS special this August. Decca get's Clay Aiken as do his fans.

The clips I've heard are wonderful. Clay's new CD is going to be great -- can't wait to get my hands on it -- June 1st --hurry up! Looking forward so much to his summer tour, also. His PBS Special in August is going to be amazing -- saw the taping and Clay blew the roof off!

I heard him sing these songs live for the PBS taping. Clay Aiken sounds amazing singing these "Tried and True" songs. Cannot wait to get that CD!!

This isn't my music and I'm out of the matey loop but I heard a snippet at the office today....... I'm surprised to say I like it. Will wonders never cease...........

Clay has finally found the right ingredients to showcase his amazing talent. These timeless classics are a perfect fit. I'm more excited every day about what the future holds for Clay. Can't wait for the CD, PBS special and tour with Ruben.

Clay Aiken gives me the heebie jeebies. His demeanor is just 100% creepy. I think it also has something to do with those freakishly tiny teeth he has. It's like his baby teeth never fell out. His music is boring and I just really can't stand the guy. Fade away, Clay Aiken.

I heard the snippets of a few songs on Tried and True album, all I have to say is wow! he sounds as smooth as silk very jazzy and finger snappy, can't wait for the whole CD.

I like clay Aikens voice but I would not consider classics to be my favorite kind of music . I will buy this cd however because my coworker saw him recently in Raleigh and went bonkers over how fantastic he sounded . I mean really bonkers . lol . She was smiling from ear to ear and raving about him .
