'American Idol' winner Lee DeWyze: 'It all just happened so fast'

The newest "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze spoke with the press backstage after his big win. Lee tells us about his experience, the thrill of it all and the fact that he had to ignore the judges' after the final performances because he did his best."This is an amazing experience, especially since this has been such a long process," says Lee. "It's been a lot harder than I thought it would be."
And how did it feel when Ryan Seacrest announced he had won? "There was confetti flying, there was fireworks, songs are starting, people are cheering," Lee laughs. "It just all happened so fast. It was amazing, it felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and now that this big step is done, it's on to the next step, which is to make an album and go on tour and do all the things I wanted to do for a long time."
The judges were pretty harsh on Lee after the final performances, was he surprised that he won? "No ... by the last week, you get it. They're gonna say what they're gonna say and regardless of what they say, as long as you go out there and you try your hardest at doing what you want to do, you can't really walk away with regrets," Lee explains.
"There's been ups and downs to this season for me, for everybody, and that's what makes this show so great," he continues. "It's vulnerable. You go up there and you do what you can. Sometimes it's awesome and sometimes it's not and it's just learning from your mistakes and becoming a better performer."

I'm surprised you won!! I think Crystal is the "Real Winner". I thought this was a 'Singing Competion". You seem to portray an image to the little younger set of girls! Crystal knocked your "Socks Off" more than once. I'm not sure I would purchase any of your CD's, as you sound a lot like everyone else--and sometimes not that good. However, sometimes the "Winner" is really not the real "Winner.!!

Lee and Crystal were both very good singers. His performance in the Semis was outstanding. He deserved to be named the American Idol, although I wouldn't have been disappointed if Crystal had won either, because she had also had a number of great performances, although many of them were earlier on in the competition. Lee peaked at the right time.
So Lee is the "Real Winner" and... you are not.

lee is the best and that is why he won. this is a page for his fans to write how great he is and how wonderful it is that he won. So all you crystal fans who are disappointed should leave and go find a page for her so you can write good things about her. don't be badmouthing lee on his own freaking page. he deserved this more than anyone. and yes i mean ANYONE. :)
Way to go Lee...I thought he was very deserving, this was a marathon not a sprint, slow and steady won the race!!....If America wanted crystal the votes would have given her the win, It's not Lee's fault people did'nt vote for her!!
