'American Idol' season finale: Janet Jackson goes from 'Nothing' to 'Nasty'
Janet Jackson got just over eight minutes of airtime during the two-hour Season 9 "American Idol" finale Wednesday (May 26) night.First up, this season's competitors sang the 1993 single "Again" together onstage. Then Jackson herself stepped on the stage for a moving performance of her new song from Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too?" soundtrack, "Nothing."
Jackson switched gears from sweet to sexy by swapping out her elegant dress for a sleek skintight body suit and getting "Nasty." Jackson performed the song off her 1986 album "Control" surrounded by male dancers and green laser lights -- and showed us that she's still got it going on at 44.

Was there a reason Janet Jackson and Joe Cocker sang? Were they the only people they could get or did Paula pull strings for Janet?
Neither of them seem really relevant to today's music and they are definitely not the best influences either artistically or even career wise for the winners.
But I guess im old enough to remember when they both had their days and wishing their music was not played on MTV or the radio.
Anyway Best wishes to you Simon looks like you made the right decision to get out now.
Next season should be pretty bad.
8 minutes too much. Better if they had used the airtime for better purpose and tapped Siobhan Magnus, Jordin Sparks, Didi Ben-Ami, or Paige Miles to sing a Lena Horne tribute.

Janet Jackson was definitely the best performance of the night and I am sure some may disagree but I think tonight’s performance is exactly what keeps fans wanting more. For all the nay-sayers that didn't particularly care for her new single "Nothing", you really must learn to appreciate good music. On another note, people need to stop trying to compare her to other female artist because there is really no comparison. She is definitely in a league of her own. There are no 44 year old female artists that are putting it down the way that she does. Better yet there aren’t too many younger female artists that have quite the stage presence that she does. Overall there is a reason why Janet has staying power and her performance on American Idol was a small reminder.
Janet is a true ICON. This performance showed how awesome she is. She always rocks it. She has the most soothing voice. Janet is one of the 10 biggest artists ever, with over 100 million albums sold and still going strong. Janet also wrote those songs. Any artist today should be so lucky to have the talent and success as Janet Miss Jackson if you're nasty.
