'American Idol' finale: Dane Cook not happy with 'weirdo' who hijacked song

dane-cook-idol-finale-ian-bernardo.jpgThe "American Idol" Season 9 finale was mostly filled with great moments -- Bret Michaels rocking out with Casey James on "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," Lee DeWyze and Chicago, Crystal Bowersox and Alanis Morissette, several Simon Cowell tributes -- but of course there had to be one off-the-rails weird moment. That's what happens when the show invites back some of its most famous cuckoo auditions.

During comedian Dane Cook's "Simon Said" song, a plethora of famous "Idol" Simon-taunters joined him onstage. But one, Ian Bernardo of Season 7 fame, grabbed the microphone from Cook and started shouting, "Who cares? It's all about Ian Benardo tonight! I'm going to replace you, Simon Cowell! No one has a thing to say about you, just me."

Not to be out-done, crazy laugh girl Tatiana del Toro tried to commandeer the mic next and the producers quickly cut away from the action and went to commercial, while Cook just stood there strumming his guitar, probably wish the stage would just open him up and swallow him whole.

Cook took to Twitter shortly thereafter:

  • If you missed it I got Kanye'd on American Idol. Wild. Luckily at the end of the song. Simon loved it. D-load song on iTunes tomorrow.
  • That was not staged. Weirdo hijacked the song. Just glad he didn't hit me in the face w/the mic or Americal Idol would b American Beatdown.
  • Weirdo = ****face
[Censoring added]

Geez, Dane. We understand that your big moment paying tribute to Simon Cowell was stepped on a little, but have you ever watched "American Idol" before? You should've known this might happen.

Just in case Mr. Cook didn't know what he was getting himself into, here's a refresher video of Ian's first go-round on "Idol." And in case you missed it, the "Simon Said" video is after that.

Dane Cook's moment was sooo unfunny. The jokes were lame, the song sucked. It was the most cringe-worthy moment of the night. This is interruption was the only thing that saved it.

so you say that its ok because its happened before and he should have known? PLEASE...IDOL should have known and not invited the guy...that was absolutely ridiculous.

I cant even name a dane cook song, but that was just RUDE...nobody cares, then something about taking simon's vacant job(By the way, never heard of weirdo, is he actually serious, he and perez hilton can fight it out for the WORST idea to replace simon)

then the girl tries to take it saying shes yadda yadda...

Sorry Idol, but this was the best example of a bunch of mid level talent thinking they are stars and will make it big no matter what....how many people are "rappers" or "singers"?...wasting their lives, and perfectly good bodies that could be ripped with Parkinsons or MS, and they spend their time destroying their bodies with alcohol, and chasing a dream that is only realistic if you can sing are creative and lastly, KNOW SOMEONE.

pathetic Idol, just cancel yourself NOW

The epitome of what American Idol is all about. Self-importance.

And I can't stand Dane Cook...I think he's an opportunistic huckster. But...

"The only time he says 'Yes' is when someone just asked him if he said "No" is a pretty good line.

Idol invited him BECAUSE they knew it would happen.... the segment was horrible and the nonsense raised in to intolerable.

Dane Cook should be glad Ian Bernardo stepped in and took the mike; after all, few laughs were heard and Simon was more embarrased for Cook than anything else. At least Bernardo created a bizarre moment, and bizarre is more entertaining than not funny.

The whole bit really wasn't going anywhere, but it was moderately amusing in a kooky, 'Idol' kind of way.
But the producers let it get stupid and problematic by inviting the egomaniac back. Bernardo was just as repulsive when he showed up one season on 'So You Think You Can Dance?" The producers really should have known ... or maybe they did, that's why he got an invite.
But really, there are hundreds of other memorable rejects who could have been brought back for at least a modicum of a dignified send-off for Simon.

Now I understand why people don't like Dane Cook. It was the worse part of the show. Totally unfunny and couldn't wait for him to get off the stage.

DANE COOK is terrible, he is the
most famous unfunny comic there ever was. Oh yea, and he's a theif, stealing bits from other comics. I only tuned into A.I
to see Janet perform, nice to see
her sing semi live for a change.
After she was done, i changed the channel.

I don't get it...why did you refer to Dane Cook as a comedian? I mean, doesn't that imply that he's funny? I've watched some of his stand-up, and the one thing he's not is funny.

Dane Cook deserved to be cut off... I just wish it happened earlier in the song.
