'American Idol': Ayla Brown gets 'Early Show' gig -- the next Katie Couric?

ayla-brown-getty.jpgAyla Brown, semi-finalist from "American Idol" and daughter of the newly-elected Republican Senator from Massachusetts Scott Brown, has landed herself a TV gig just weeks before she graduates from Boston College.

The Associated Press is reporting that Brown will be a producer, focusing on producing pieces for a youth audience. The show became interested in her after she appeared on "The Early Show" back in January. Executive Producer David Friedman says, "You can't create the next Katie Couric, you just have to find the talent that you think can develop into something."

Interesting that he cites Katie Couric, the long-time "Today" host. We know she's not on the CBS Evening News, but her morning show roots were at the Peacock and not the Eye. Perhaps Friedman should've said the next Julie Chen?

Ayla will be following in her mother Gail Huff's television footsteps, as Gail is currently a reporter for Boston's ABC affiliate. Maybe next Ayla will follow in her father's foosteps and pose nude in a magazine run for Congress.

You have to love it to see someone with no experience or honed skills land a prime job like that because it gives the network easy access to her father. My heart is with all the soon-to-be college graduates without a famous father, that will have to find a job on their own in the midst of a jobless recovery for the economy.

well-said Anny...isn't everyone getting just sick of all these influential ppl's kids??

Until Scott Brown won in a crazy election 5 months ago, Ayla Brown was far more famous than her father. I live in MA and, since he was not my state rep, I had no idea who he was. The family doesn't come from money so I think she needs a job just like the rest of the college grads of 2010. Whether she has the credentials to get this job or not, who knows but I am not the hiring manager. Just sayin'...

I live in MA too, and Ayla's 15 minutes of fame was drying up fast ... her father's election revived her career in the spotlight. People were jokingly calling her the national anthem girl, since thats really all she was good for. Her father wasn't a household name to those who don't pay attention to local news, but he has long often been rumored to be a strong candidate for Governor at some point soon, and to say they don't come from money is an absolute joke. You are probably like many in this state who got suckered into thinking because he bought a pick up truck, that he is some sort of middle class working stiff, when in reality he is a lawyer and had a highly lucrative modeling and hand modeling career. You like many others see him drive the truck in the ad, but don't see the huge high scale house he pulls up to.
