'American Idol': Aaron Kelly joins Zap2it's Harry Connick Jr. as 'Idol' judge campaign
Zap2it has started a movement -- Harry Connick Jr. should replace Simon Cowell on "American Idol." We voiced our opinion on this subject not five minutes after Connick's mentoring episode of "Idol" aired. We then discovered that Season 7 "Idol" finalist Melinda Doolittle sees Connick as a good choice as well. She tells Zap2it, "He's someone who understands the entire process. He can do everything. Up until [Connick's episode] I really did not think it was possible to replace Simon, but Harry Connick Jr. made a believer out of me."
And now Aaron Kelly has joined the movement. He tells Zap2it in his "Idol" exit interview, "He would be a great replacement for Simon. He's very honest and he's going to tell you straight out. I think Harry Connick would fit the bill perfectly. I'm not sure [if it'll happen], I don't know how that works or anything, but for my opinion he'd be a great person to fill in Simon's spot."
Kelly also said that Connick was by far his favorite mentor. "He worked with us on such a personal level, he worked really hard in making sure that we all shined on our performance night. Just having a mentor who cares so much and is such an iconic figure. It was such an honor getting to share the stage with him, I felt really privileged having him as a mentor."
We think we're really picking up some steam with this idea. Are you listening, "American Idol" and FOX?

The guy knows music, is razor-sharp. Would also be entertaining as a judge. Don't know if it would be a good fit for his band schedule, but he would be a great choice.
Watching him, I had huge regret that he and Siobhan Magnus were not able to work together. Connick to give her some badly needed advice on when big notes are appropriate and enhance the song, when they are not. And because Siobhan could have really done ol' Frank justice.
I fully support this idea.
Great idea, but unlikely to work. The guy tours frequently, loves his collaborative work and his charity work, and this type of show (from the tryouts through to the AI champ) is clearly the commitment of half a year. I just don't see this idea making the cut.

My immediate thoughts after watching Harry Connick's mentoring episode was that ... He would be the perfect replacement of Simon Cowell. He told it like it is and was very funny. I didn't think it would be possible to replace Simon until I saw this guy.
Absolutely. These were the two most honest, educational and entertaining nights of Idol ever, even if the contestants were mediocre. Connick is pure gold!
I think they need to repair the voting system first before worrying about judges.
The voting system is a farce.
One reason why this year sucks so badly is that teen texting queens are keeping inferior but cute males in the running while eliminating more talented female contestants.
This show jumped the shark after Season 5.
I totally support the idea of getting HCJ to repklace Simon Cowell. Nobody is irreplacable, and I disagree that there should be any "mean" judge. It's stressfull enough just to make it on the show, wouldn't they all try harder if the judges were more supportive and helpful? AI is in need of many repairs if it's even possible to bring back the original magic. I think Ellen has done a fair job as judge and tried hard, but she would REALLY improve the show as a replacement for Ryan. Then just can all the other judges and put all new ones out there! Sometimes total change is best! I suppose HCJ wouldn't consider the offer, but maybe he would make more money as a judge? Half a years work hasn't hurt Simon's bank account any.
I was a big American Idol fan until they cheated Siobhan off the show.
I refuse to watch it but continue to check daily for Siobhan Magnus news and I can't wait to see her again. Any Siobhan news is good whether an interview, an article about "Dorking out," etc. I also enjoy reading about the ratings decline for American Idol.
Yes American Idol is broken. The voting system is broken. The judging system is broken. The show used to be fun and it does give the unknowns out there a chance. But greed and ratings strategies have ruined the goodness.
If they get rid of Kara and put a muzzle on Ryan, fix the judging system and admit that it was flawed then maybe I will watch next year.
Simon is too full of himself and in his old age he got real nasty. I hope they find a decent replacement. For now though, I am too disgusted to see the rest of this season.
Please leave Simon alone. He is the only judge who gives fair criticism. Yes, Harry Connick would make a good judge, but to work side by side with Simon. If anything perhaps Ellen could move over for him.
