ABC picks up 2 more: 'Body of Proof' and 'Off the Map'

body-of-proof-320.jpgABC is keeping pace with NBC for the "most new shows ordered" title at the 2010 upfronts, adding two more dramas to its roster for 2010-11.

The latest pickups, according to several reports, are a crime show called "Body of Proof" and the Shonda Rhimes-produced "Off the Map," about doctors working in a remote South American clinic. They join comedies "Happy Endings," "Mr. Sunshine" and "Better Together" and dramas "No Ordinary Family," "My Generation" and "Detroit 187" -- bringing ABC's pickup total to nine series, which is just behind NBC's 11.

(FOX has picked up five shows so far, and CBS and The CW will probably each add three or four.)

"Body of Proof" (previously known as "Body of Evidence") stars Dana Delany ("Desperate Housewives") as a neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner whose expertise helps solve murder cases. Chris Murphey wrote the pilot, and "CSI: Miami" veteran Sunil Nayar is joining the show as an executive producer. The cast also includes Jeri Ryan ("Leverage," "Shark"), John Carroll Lynch ("K-Ville," "Close to Home"), Nicholas Bishop ("Past Life"), Geoffrey Arend ("Trust Me") and Wendell Middlebrooks ("Scrubs").

The pickup presumably means the end of Delany's time on "Housewives," which ends its season on Sunday (May 16).

"Off the Map" was created by "Grey's Anatomy" writer-producer Jenna Bans; she'll also executive produce with the "Grey's"/"Private Practice" team of Rhimes and Betsy Beers. It's about a doctor (Martin Henderson, "Smokin' Aces," "The Ring") who gave up a big job in the U.S. to found a small clinic with scant resources in South America.

The series will also star Caroline Dhavernas ("Wonderfalls"), Jason George ("Grey's Anatomy," "Eli Stone"), Enrique Murciano ("Without a Trace"), Mamie Gummer ("John Adams"), Valerie Cruz ("Dexter," "True Blood") and Jose Julian.

What is the point of picking up all these shows, holding them until the end of the season (Happy Town) or the for the summer (Scoundrels etc.) and expecting viewers to get involved in a show that is dead before the first episode is even shown. These networks get dumber and dumber!!!!!

both these shows sound bad. and agree with above comment, enough Shonda already! ugh.

O.M.G. Caroline Dhavernas aka Jaye Tyler is back on TV??!!

Jaye Tyler.. wooohooo.

So CBS had two medical shows that didn't work, although Miami Medical is getting better but what good does that do it? NBC had two medical shows which they canceled. So...ABC is going to add two more medical shows when they already have two?

I like dramas about lawyers, doctors, and police but honestly can't someone come up with something different that is not sci-fi or reality?

NBC cancels Law and Order and gives us Law and Order: LA? Really? Are they going to put it opposite NCIS: LA? Maybe American Idol can rename their show AI:LA and we can have a trifecta.

I still think a network should go for the tween to teenage/young adult audience. They seem to have pushed that audience to the cable networks.

Nadine is a POS that has no life and no life goals other than to go from one entertainment website to the next writing s-hit about Shonda Rhimes and ABC shows. Please tell us when Shonda asked you to watch her show? She has a combined +20 million viewers watching Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice every week. If you're that much of a TARD, you/Jay, one in the same, turn the freakin tv off. Are you too much of a simpleton to figure out how to do that? Both shows more than likely are going to be hits much to your dismay. Deal with it dumbass!
