ABC adds seven series for fall 2010; 'V' held till midseason

no-ordinary-family-michael-chiklis-320.jpgABC will try to reload its drama roster in the fall with five new shows spread across four nights of the week. The network has also added one comedy and one unscripted series to its fall lineup and has three more shows in reserve for next season.

The biggest changes come on Tuesday nights, where dramas "No Ordinary Family" and "Detroit 1-8-7" will sandwich the "Dancing With the Stars" results show. "No Ordinary Family," which stars Michael Chiklis as a dad who, along with his wife and kids, suddenly develops superpowers, will try to gain traction against "NCIS" and "Glee" at 8 o'clock, while the cop show "Detroit 1-8-7" goes at 10 p.m.

The lone new comedy for fall is "Better Together," which stars JoAnna Garcia and Jennifer Finnigan as sisters with vastly different outlooks on life and relationships. It will air at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, in between "The Middle," which moves up to 8, and "Modern Family." "Cougar Town" -- no name change -- stays put at 9:30, while a new legal drama, "The Whole Truth," goes in at 10.

ABC did renew "V," but it's being held until midseason. So are two new comedies, "Mr. Sunshine" and "Happy Endings," and the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama "Off the Map."

The other new dramas for the fall are "My Generation," about former high-school classmates who, 10 years later, aren't quite where they thought they would be; and "Body of Proof," a crime drama starring Dana Delany ("Desperate Housewives") as a medical examiner. "My Generation" will air at 8 p.m. Thursdays, while "Body of Proof" goes in at 9 p.m. Fridays. (See ABC's night-by-night schedule.)

ABC also picked up the unscripted show "Secret Millionaire" from FOX. The show has wealthy people going undercover to live in poverty-stricken communities and then using their wealth to the people they encounter.

The network's cancellations don't come as any real surprise: "FlashForward" is done, as are "The Forgotten," "The Deep End," "Better Off Ted," "Scrubs," "Happy Town" and -- despite star Alyssa Milano's Twitter campaign -- "Romantically Challenged."

So is FlashForward officially cancelled? And why bother renewing V if you are going to hold it off 'til mid season?!? The long delay in between episodes is going to kill it. It almost did already and that is basically what happened to FlashForward.

Dumb move not to change Cougar Town's name. Had another discussion with several friends while out the other night. Those who watch love it - those who don't were turned off by the name. Same conversation we have all the time - "Show great. Name sucks."

Oh I see they updated this page and FlashForward is done...:( I'm hoping another network picks it up. It really did keep getting better.

It's a shame the suits at ABC can't see FlashForward's potential. I don,t get it. Why finance a new series, than kill it with a huge hiatus? They also failed to promote it. What kind of business plan is that?

Thank you ABC for keeping V till mid-season ... now let the producers work on their 13-episode and deliver next year and if its the end of it let them go out with a BANG ...

No Flash forward, no damages, no lost, no 24, v until midseason. What to watch now?

I agree that the long hiatuses are what kill some of the otherwise good shows. Really sorry to see FlashForward go and don't really think the way they showed The Deep End gave it much of a chance to find an audience.

Impossible to get interested in any new shows...as soon as I do they are either gone or split into half seasons. Even cable is getting ridiculous. Run 22-24 episodes, then repeat and you'll have viewers. We DO watch TV on Saturdays, We DO watch TV in March and January and July and more importantly we do SHOP for stuff in those months... hint to advertisers.

Ok.... i am still upset no V till January? Are you kidding me.... Thanks ABC. Bring it back in the fall!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last fall I watched Flashforward and V. When they took the long break, I lost faith that the shows would come back and I was right. Why invest in watching a show if you don't get to see the conclusion? I've been recording all the Flashforwards, this spring, but now I won't watch (why bother). Why would they do this with V? They're going to kill the show. Doesn't anyone have a brain at ABC?
ps - I held off on watching LOST until this past fall, when I knew they'd stick around for a conclusion.
