'White Collar': Creator Jeff Eastin on Season 2 and pranking the 'Burn Notice' writers

jeff-eastin-320.jpgWhen we say that a show has an explosive season finale, normally we mean it in a less literal sense.

But "White Collar" has always done things its own way, so we weren't completely surprised when, in last month's finale, the series blew up the plane that Neal's (Matthew Bomer) lady love Kate (Alexandra Daddario) was on.

Korbi TV caught up with creator Jeff Eastin at a Paley Center event honoring the show and asked him if the writers had really just killed off the woman their leading man spent an entire season looking for.

"You haven't seen the end of her, just because we want to do an episode where we see the first time Peter actually caught Neal," Eastin says in the clip below. "So we flash back and we see that and we see Neal meeting Kate. So, no, you haven't seen the last of Kate, at least because we're coming back to the past."

And since Neal did put so much effort into looking for Kate last year, we were also curious about where his attention will be directed next season.

"[Neal's] two focuses will really be finding out who blew up the plane and what secret the box holds," Eastin says. "The box leads to a much bigger mystery, so the box, we'll be done with pretty quickly, but the mystery it holds will continue on through season two."

Check out the video for more on that, as well as Eastin's hilarious remarks on the April Fool's day prank he and his writers played on the "Burn Notice" scribes.

Also, Sharif Atkins (Jones) makes a guest appearance, crashing our interview and begging for a love interest on camera...

Surely there are some ladies who'd be willing to date Jones, no?

Outstanding show. However it might be better to spend less time with this Kate nonsense, and more time with humor and even stronger plots. Producers, if you need any more advice feel free to write.

Oh on that last comment you can call me Chi-Town Dude.

My friend recommended me a nice site ____*** www.SeekInterracial com ** ___ an exclusive online community designed to help diversely ethnic singles meet new friends, make great dates, and build lasting interracial relationships. ..You should have a try €¦

Kate better have been on that plane. Neil turned around about 3 seconds before the explosion.

Agree w/ Steve. Kate was just a distraction for my husband & I. The relationships betw/ Peter & Neal, Elizabeth & Neal, and Mozz is what makes the show so enjoyable. Dump Kate.

I agree. Ditch "Kate" and focus on Neal/Peter, Kate & Mozzie. Luv them!

I enjoy this show SO much! Thanks for posting!

I have to agree with others that I do not care for Kate much either.

The relationships between Neal, Peter, Elizabeth, Mozzie, and June make this show fun to watch.

It all starts with the simple issue of TRUST. I dunno about you guys but it seems that the writers are smart and they down playing the connection with Kate and that she weaves everything together deeper than believed. We never see how Neal gets caught , more importantly WHY. I have a feeling that Kate was playing Neal the whole time (ahh con-women, arent they all) and Peter found out during his investigations - He mentioned he has aliases. Peter in turn plays Kate to get to Neal, not thinking Neal would escape.(side note, I still can't rule out Neal got caught for a reason and is playing every single character to get find the truth and see how deep it goes). All the while playing the dynamic of the man who sees the certain 'waste' of time following the rules and what it got him(or hasn't in most cases), along with the man who doesn't know who to trust, has no family, finds it in Peter, and sees what COULD have been.
Long story short, i love everything about this show. The camera angles/directing/wardrobe/cast is all a great change of pace from the regular run of the mill crap thats on TV. White Collar came off as another stereotypical waste of time on the promos, but i sure am glad i tuned in one day -- it's so close to following general guidelines for mainstream TV , but somewhere in Eastin's mind when the fork in the road came to either write the typical 'Cop-con' show or the boring re-done 'CSI' show -- Jeff drove straight through it while blending a new idea with old-time TV feel, and seems to have something very magical with the blend of cast and crew.DO NOT change a thing.
