VH1 plans less sleazy reality slate; Drew Carey develops 'WTF!'
VH1 is taking out the trash. The cable network announced its upcoming programming slate which appears to be missing "Rock of Love" and its ilk, instead offering up 44 new series that will fall into the music, celebrity and "real life stories" categories, according to The Hollywood Reporter
"As much as they've enjoyed the 'Love' franchise, our audience was getting a little fatigued by all those manufactured reality shows," said Tom Calderone, president, VH1. "They want more authenticity in their reality, which isn't to say that it can't be comedic and light."
Some of the projects include:
- Christina Aguilera episodes "Behind the Music" and "Storytellers," in conjunction with the release of her album "Bionic" in June
- "You're Cut Off" (June 14) - Nine spoiled party girls go to party "rehab"
- "Money Hungry" (summer) - A weight loss show in which competitors can lose money if they don't lose the pounds
- "What Chilli Wants" - A series about TLC singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, which was already previewed earlier in the month
In other TV news:
- Drew Carey and Tom Forman are developing the hidden camera show "WTF!" -- the working title that stands for "Wow That's Funny!" The show will send out a flash mob-esque group who goes out and pulls hilarious, but rewarding pranks on an unsuspecting public. In the example given, truck drivers drop by their favorite late-night food stop only to find it converted into a five-star restaurant just for them.
- CBS ordered the American version of the British reality TV show hit "Got to Dance," which will be paired with the upcoming 11th season of "Big Brother" this summer
- Cybill Shepherd had joined Jennifer Love Hewitt in the Lifetime movie playing a body waxer at a woman's salon who discovers that her former golden girl daughter is turning tricks to keep food on the table.
- Henry Zebrowski has joined NBC's comedy "Beach Lane."
- "The Good Wife" has added James Carpinello in a recurring role.
In other casting news, Henry Zebrowski has been added to NBC's pilot "Beach Lane."

yeah, take out the TRASH (Flav, NY, Rock of Love, Tila, etc.) and GOOD RIDDANCE! but i hope they keep Celeb Fit Club, and i wish they'd bring back "Mystery" but change the format.
Personally, I enjoyed the guilty pleasure of watching VH1's "Love" franchise and it's a bummer that Ryan Jenkins derailed it. I was looking forward to I Love Money 3 and the conclusion of Megan Wants A Millionnaire.
big mistake vh1----i love all of the love franchises too---since frank's a basement affair ended, this is the first time there hasn't been any of those shows on---i miss them
If VH1 really wanted to take out the trash, they would have canned the people responsible for their execrable programming as well.
Meanwhile, what is with Drew Carey's warmed-over version of Candid Camera / Punked? The words epic fail come to mind.
