TV ratings: 'Dancing' swings another Monday win

The absence of Kate Gosselin didn't hurt "Dancing With the Stars" much Monday as the show cruised to another overall ratings win. "House," however, scored well enough among adults 18-49 to lead FOX to a demographic victory.

In the overall numbers, ABC (14.5 million viewers, 9.5 rating/15 share in households) led by a wide margin over FOX (9.9 million, 6.1/9). A night of (mostly) repeats on CBS took third with 7.9 million viewers and a 5.1/8. NBC (5.35 million, 3.4/5) came in fourth, followed by The CW (2.05 million, 1.3/2), which saw "Gossip Girl" improve a bit on its recent numbers.

Among adults 18-49, FOX's 3.5 rating beat out ABC's 3.3 for the lead. CBS came in third with a 2.7. NBC's 1.7 was good enough to top The CW's 1.1 for fourth.

Another great House episode last night. I cannot believe people would rather turn their brains off and watch DWTS crap over the best drama on tv. PEOPLE, watch HOUSE, you may learn something!!!
24 was also great last night... Go Jack GO!!

I am a huge fan of House, but I have to say that demo victories are always hollow.

When you get great ratings, you don't need to parse the ratings in search of something to brag about.

Of course if House's ratings are disappointing, what does that make Trauma of the Josh Schwartz Monday Night losing duo: Chuck and Gossip Girl.

Speaking of people who don't deliver getting millions from the networks, NBC just gave a trunkful of money to the creator of Parks and Recreation.

Yes, you read right. The show nobody is watching.

It would have been just too horrible for NBC not to have exclusive access to the output of a man with such a track record of ratings brilliance.

And NBC will wonder why they can't find a hit when the reason is that they contract to people that keep not producing them...

NBC has become such an island cut off from the real world that it is amazing to behold (if very sad).

Of course, the Hollywood press did not point out that NBC once again paid up to keep the people that are failing it around.

Ratings have always been good for DWTS - they didn't need Kate at all.

How come you guys are reporting a 3.7 for Chuck when most sites are reporting a 2.1?

@george: the 2.1 is probably an 18-49 rating, which the PR people will delight in spinning (with the unconditional help of the Hollywood press).

That number is entirely irrelevant of course, but don't tell Rick Kissell of Variety.

@Rick:

Once again, thanks for posting the real numbers and giving a sane context for their interpretation.

@doral7doral: I don't think anyone cold possibly confuse Kat Gosselin with someone with any discernible talent for anything except self-aggrandizement.
