'Scream 4': Kevin Williamson talks killing plans, Ghostface
Now that "Scream 4" is underway, fans of the franchise are wondering just how creator Kevin Williamson can refresh the old franchise. Just how safe are returning characters Sidney, Gale and Dewey? Williamson tells Fearnet that just because those beloved characters -- played by Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette -- have become a staple of the first trilogy, doesn't mean they're not fair game for Ghostface in the upcoming film.
"[Director Wes Craven] and I feel one-hundred percent that we're gonna need to surprise the audience," said Williamson. "If we don't, there's no reason to do it ... It's a 'Scream' movie. People have to die. And I'm no stranger to killing people. Even on 'The Vampire Diaries' we'll take regular characters and just kill 'em."
A few other tidbits from the interview:
- We won't see Jamie Kennedy's character Randy return: "To have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it ... I mean 'Scream 2' was a lie, you know? It's a false move. So I just won't do it. I can't do that. I just won't do it."
- Plans for "Scream 5" and "Scream 6": "['Scream 4'] has to be good in order for us to make a '5' - '5' will be a continuation of '4.' The deal for '6' is not done. I mean, I pitched three films."
- A favorite character could go rogue: "It's possible. I think Dewey, Gale or Sidney could become Ghostface."

Grew up with these movies. I hope this one is as good as the first.
Its not Scream without Sidney, so as long as they dont kill her then I'll watch the movies.. but once they kill her, its like what happened to Halloween after that main woman got killed.. no one cares or watches it anymore.

they are going to kill Sidney. when the news first came out both Arquettes have a 3 picture deal. with neve they did not announce any additional movies just that she would be back.
Sidney must not be killed. Nor the Arquettes. The chemistry is too good.

I'm wondering who the killer will be.
On the one hand, it seems like it has to be one of those 3; it wouldn't be interesting otherwise.
But on the other hand, it seems too easy, y'know?
Also I really don't want any of them to die, at least not in 4. They're such great characters.
One of the "rules" a scream movie is that randy has to explain the rules of the movie. they should find a way to bring Randy's character back. Perhaps he didn't die in scream 2, he could have been in a coma this whole time. Maybe he has a twin brother. Or maybe something simple like Sidney has a dream with Randy speaking to her from beyond the grave.
It likely won't happen, but it was just a suggestion.
Scream turned me on to horror movies in general. Anyone who doesnt like the movie obviously never watched it in the 90's, and they're brain-washed by the bull this generation calls horror. Good taste is a factor too. Neve will most likely be killed off, concidering the fact she didn't even want to shoot the third one. Hopefully they won't ruin the whole thing and make her ghost face, that's just silly, unless there's an unthinkable twist. As for Randy returning, that idea should just be shot. As much as I love his character and wish that he was never killed off, the truth is it would break all the rules. Scream isn't that kind of a movie. It's not a world in which people are brought back from the dead. They can't go from Randy's legacy death tape to Randy was in a coma. I think it should be Syd's dad.
