'Orientation: Ryan Station' answers reader questions about 'Lost', Part 2
Hope you enjoyed the first half of this week's two-part "Lost" podcast. Mo Ryan and I had so much to say about all things show-related that I had to break things up into two separate segments. So we're back today with another 40+ minutes of chatter for you.
Today's topics: the gendered treatment of characters on the show, a look at the show's finite model to see if it might affect the development of other shows, and what we're planning on doing once "Lost" is over. If you liked Part One, you'll be very interested in hearing what we have to say this time around.
As always, there are a few ways to enjoy the podcast. Below lies an MP3 player that you can use in-browser.
Just below that, there's a link to download it directly to your hard
drive. Adjacent to that is a link to the podcast's feed. The best way,
in my humble opinion? Subscribe to the podcast. It's easy, it's free,
it's easier than drowning your sorrows in a family-sized bucket of Mr. Cluck's delicious chicken.
While you're over there, please give us a rating and/or review. We'd
love to get as many people listening as possible.
Enjoy!
The player will show in this paragraph

Hey, Ryan, do you get credit for me subscribing via RSS with Mypodder? Using ITunes with my Cowon mp3 player is a pain in the *** compared to just subscribing and opening my MyPodder program, which retrieves every RSS feed I put into it.
I posted this over on the comments section about part one, but was worried you wouldn't see it. I just wanted to say thanks for the podcasts. I love listening to them while I walk the dog. Great time! I was shocked to hear about the guy trying to ruin the ending for people on message boards. I am going to stay away from them for that reason. However, I like the comments here. do you preview the comments Ryan? Can I consider this a safe site to read comments? I hope so...
The Wings won last night...LOST you may resume now. Back on subject. Sure, there is a lack of strong writing for the female characters of LOST. But Kate is the MacGruber of female characters! She cooks, she tracks, she wears mens dress shirts, she's a sailor, she can shoot, run, jump and dive! Now, granted, she'd rather follow (obsessively) than lead, but she's strong nonetheless.
One more thing. Mo needs to discover the "cough button".
I can't think of another podcast with such an inverse relationship between the quality of content and audio. Great content, excellent conversations. But seriously, could you please consider putting more time and/or effort into the audio?
Good stuff all around.
*THEORY*
Smocke's demise will happen because everyone will find out that he's been hiding snack packs in his backpack all this time and not sharing.
I enjoyed the two podcasts this week, made the repeat week a bit better. I definitely laughed at the closing joke about Mo see George Revees in a mirror in an alt universe. I watch and enjoy Mad Men (although I don't think it personally measures up to Lost)so I would definitely tune into a discussion about that after Lost is over.
This is a question I had. I have been looking for someone else to notice it in blogs and the like, but so far I've never seen it mentioned.
Ilana said that the MIB is now confined to Locke's body. Yet, after 316 landed he took on the form of Alex to tell Ben to obey Locke. Doesn't this mean that MIB can in fact still change into other deceased people?
Bias is a tricky thing. What I found interesting about the conversation on LOST in this podcast is that a third of it was used to knock the show on its abandoning any further development of the female characters. I agree. LOST killed off the best female character they created in the season 6 opener and has relegated the other women on the show to crazy freaks or the love appendages of the men. What I found ironic is at the end of this podcast you discussed the possibility of doing the same thing on MAD MEN. Now, you might be okay with the women on that show, but since the beginning the writers have ignored the fact their show occurs during the decade of the Civil Rights Movement. Every minority character on the show has been a shoeshiner, waiter, or some other service worker. That's why I don't care how good MAD MEN I cannot watch it because of that. Obviously, that doesn't bother you.
I echo the "good content, poor sound quality" comments.
Ryan, I thought about suggesting a drinking game in which listeners drink a shot of tequila every time you say, "sort of," but I decided I can't encourage alcohol poisoning.
Gary, I may be showing my age here, but does your comment mean that you couldn't watch ROOTS because it had slaves in it? ;-)
