Oprah hits the road for her 'Next Chapter'

oprah-winfrey-afi-09-320.jpgThe launch of OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network is less than nine months away, and Winfrey will, unsurprisingly, be front and center when it debuts on Jan. 1, 2011.

Winfrey, who's leaving her daytime talk show next year, will remain a presence in front of the camera with an OWN show called "Oprah's Next Chapter." The series, which OWN and Discovery announced Thursday (April 8), will be a combination interview show and travelogue as Winfrey has "riveting conversations with the people we all want to hear from" in places ranging from her own back yard to the Taj Mahal.

"Oprah's Next Chapter" is one of five new shows OWN announced at its upfront presentation in New York. The other new shows are a show following country singer Shania Twain's life called "Why Not?"; a profile show called "Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind"; a daily simulcast of "Gayle King Live," the radio show hosted by Winfrey's best friend; and a competition called "Your Own Show," in which Winfrey and producer Mark Burnett will look for someone to follow in the footsteps of Winfrey proteges Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and Nate Berkus.

"My vision for OWN is to create a network that inspires our viewers and makes them want to be who they are on their best day," Winfrey says.

The five new shows join 10 others -- including a behind-the-scenes look at the final season of Winfrey's daytime show -- on OWN's inaugural slate.
