'Lost': My recap for 'Everybody Loves Hugo' is live

hurley-mr-clucks-320.jpgWith a title like that, the tagline sort of writes itself: "Did everybody love 'Everybody Loves Hugo'?" Well, I liked it. Really liked most of it. You take the good, you take the bad, you take the rest, "Lost" fans, and there you have this episode. Armed with the information gleaned about the sideways world from last week's "Happily Ever After" coupled with the slightly schizo structure of "The Package," "Hugo" sought to cover a lot of ground. And sometimes, it tripped over its own two feet while trying to cover it.

Read my full recap here. And I'm terribly excited that I can bring back the oldie but goodie WAAAAAALT as the key word to use in any questions you would like answered about the episode below.

Ryan invites you to join the hundreds already in Zap2It's Guide to Lost Facebook group.

Is it just me or was that music/dialog at the end from the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?!

In any case, I can't wait to see how those who love the turn the show has taken lately explain some of tonight's events! (Especially how Widmore intended for Desmond to be thrown down the well, and why alt-Desmond killed alt-Locke.)

I've been off-line for a few days... getting caught up while waiting for Ryan to post his recap:

CLOEQ: "@Concerned...just because there is no causal loop, that doesn't mean events happening aren't causal..."

Thanks for the clarification.

BOTN: "Well, I guess if the sideways time-line does end up staying in place, you won't have to make the Solomon-ian choice of splitting the baby..."

It does seem that at this point this is the best scenario, even though I was hoping for so long that there was only one timeline.

JEFF: "@Concerned: I have to agree with a lot of your points.... and I think that would be a tremendous cheat on the part of the writers..."

Thank you, Jeff, for expressing your feelings... glad to know some people feel the way I do.

DEBBIE: "I don't know...the more I read these comments, the more I think the mirrorverse is the preferred world..."

Thank you too, Debbie.

MARTIN: "I don't think that people are choosing a believable science ficion explaination OVER relationships - they just want both."

Yes! Exactly! Thank you Martin.

MARTIN: "I know we want LOST to be original and all but I think the writing is on the wall here."

True, but sad (IMHO).

BOTN: "Claire could eventually open a hand-made doll company called Squirrel Babies R US"

Good one! And the talking model could be called "Tickle Me Carcass"!

DMCM: "I think the Flash Sideways is definitely under the MIB/Smocke/etc.'s influence... But the thing is, what's so BAD about the flash sideways?"

Good point!

RYAN: "In a way, the individual deals that people make with Smocke mirror that bottle of shampoo: Individually, they are understandable wishes made by people in need. But if everyone collectively opts to undo a mistake from the past, well, what you end up undoing is the fabric of choices that produce an entire world."

Okay, I must admit that is a very good point!

JEFFC: "@Barry: Dang! That was very well put. Nice one :)"

Just read Barry's comment now, AFTER seeing tonight's episode, and it is even more impressive!

Okay, reading tonight's pre-show chat now... excellent! I actually laughed out loud several times! I'll just comment on a few:

SPLINTER: "i think it would be great to see starla, the girl hurley asked out before it hit the fan and he was discovered as the lottery winner. that would be cool."

I used to dream about that too, until re-watching some episode I caught that she had run off with Hugo's friend (the one who was in the truck, pissed that Hugo hadn't told him, when everyone found out that Hugo had won the lottery). Would be too weird after that I think. So I'm so glad Libby is (apparently) back!

SPLINTER: "i think seeing des in every sideways from now on would be very cool and i want to see him doing something active, not just being there"

After the end of tonight's episode this pre-show chat comment is especially funny/ironic!

Bronzethumb: "I think its in Sonya Walger's contract that in every show, she needs to have a child called 'Charlie'."

Good one!

ANDREI2.0: "I wanna see Sideways Vincent!"

Yeah!

Okay, I see Ryan's recap was just posted so I'm going to go read it now...

And I guess that would mean that the dead who can't move on are -- yes, that's right -- Oompa Loompas!

WAAAAAALT!

So, how about that Willy Wonka preview for next week? Perhaps Jacob is really looking for a Candidate to take over his Apollo chocolate factory once he's gone? Is Charles Widmore really Slugworth after the Island's Everlasting Gobstopper? Is the Man in Black nothing but a Vermicious Knid? Do the snozzberries actually taste like snozzberries?

So I guess that means the dead who can't move on are Oompa Loompas?

Sorry about the double post -- for some reason the web site put my original "Oompa Loompa" comment BEFORE the comment I was referring to, so I didn't see it at first and re-posted it.

(I've seen this web site put comments out of order before once or twice as well... the web masters want to check into this when they get a chance.)

WALLLTTT!

Do you think that maybe Desmond ran over Locke not only because he wanted him to "feel" the other timeline, but also to get him to Jack's hospital so the two can start connecting again (and maybe Locke's spine?) Considering this episode finished with Jack and a version of Locke facing each other down in the Island world, I could see their reconciliation in Sideways world tying into that next week.

@optimistic: yeah, my comment came back at me with a vengeance!

i've always wanted an answer to the whispers and we finally got it!

i'm off to work but i'll be sure to read the recap and comments later;

lost rocks!

@other sean: i thought the same thing--sideways locke isn't dead (yet) and will encounter jack at the only hospital in la

i've really got to get to work! maybe i should just call in sick?

waaaaallllltttt!!!!!

tell me des is not dead! what is at the bottom of that well?

yeah, the instances of whispers don't quite mesh with the explanation given last night but does this mean that if the island is uncorked, then the trapped souls also get to leave?

okay, i'm going to get fired

Re Ilana, when Jacob said he had something important for her to do, maybe all it was was to initiate Ben's redemption. Once that was completed, the island actually was "done with her"
