'Hung' books 'Alias' star Merrin Dungey

merrin-dungey-getty.jpgFormer "Alias" star Merrin Dungey will be looking for some male companionship on HBO's "Hung" this summer.

Dungey will have a "major" recurring part in the dark comedy's second season, according to Deadline.com. She'll play a woman named Liz who is one of basketball coach/male prostitute Ray Drecker's (Thomas Jane) clients -- and maybe more than that.

Dungey guest-starred on "Castle" earlier this month and appeared in several episodes of "Better Off Ted" over the course of its two seasons. Her credits also include recurring roles on "The King of Queens" and "Malcolm in the Middle" and, of course, "Alias," where she played Sydney's (Jennifer Garner) best friend Francie.

She also starred in the back-door pilot for "Private Practice" but was replaced by Audra McDonald when the show went to series.

"Hung" premieres June 27 on HBO.

Ooh, bad Francie is back! Love her, love her, love her.

I've never gotten over her replacement on Private Practice. Merrin Dungey has more of an "edge" than Audra McDonald.
