'Dancing With the Stars': Evan Lysacek's samba ties him for last place. What happened?
It was no gold medal performance for Evan Lysacek Monday (April 26) night.Lysacek saw his worst scores of the "Dancing With the Stars" competition with his samba. While triple sevens might have been welcome scores for some of the other "DWTS" competitors, for the consistently high-scoring Lysacek, it was a huge disappointment.
The judges' comments only added salt to the wounds.
Bruno Tonioli liked his lyrical lines, but he said they don't work for this dance. He added that his legs should have been turned out.
Len Goodman prefaced his remarks with, "I don't want to be nasty." Uh oh. "It was your worst dance," said Goodman, cutting straight to the point.
Carrie Ann Inaba simply said, "You lost the battle tonight."
And lose he did. Lysacek, who is used to coming in first or second in his back and forth battle with Nicole Scherzinger (who won the night), tied for last place alongside Jake Pavelka and Niecy Nash (who both also scored triple sevens).
Why the sudden fall from grace? Lysacek did mention that he is still working on his Latin dances -- but then again, he scored a 27 with his rumba just last week.
Could it have been that hit he took to the head? Lysacek whacked his head on the ground during practice in a lift swing move. He even went to the hospital, where he was told he had a "very mild concussion."
Eh, we don't think Lysacek -- who has been dancing on broken toes for weeks -- would place the blame on a "very mild concussion."
Zap2it has an interview scheduled with Lysacek for Tuesday morning, so we'll be sure to ask him what the heck happened and give you all the day-after info.

He's been the best through out the season, had a bad week for sure. I wonder if the skating schedule has finally caught up with him.
when you look at all the stars who get 7's and compare their routines, u have to shake your head. chad and cheryl were by far the best tonight - technically and performance and HOT! i love niole and derek but that was an overscore, like giving pam 7's and even an 8 was an overscore.
Despite the negatives the judges found with Evan's performance, I thought that it was amazing. He and Anna had super chemistry. They were on fire. The hip action was fierce. There were standout moments aplenty. And he was one of the five performances that received a standing ovation. I think his was the longest as well. In this instance the judges were too harsh. I believe so anyway.
Len DIDN'T compare Evan's dance to a "carnival" dance, he was saying that the samba itself IS a "carnival" dance and his dance was too "balletic".
Chad and Cheryl were the best? Are you kidding? Blech!
The Samba is supposed to be a carnival dance as in Mardi Gras. Len was saying that Evan was "too balletic" i.e. not loose enough.
Chad and Cheryl were clearly at least as good as Derek and Nicole tonight. Len's comments about Derek and Nicole were spot on: This competition is getting too far away from anything resembling actual ballroom dancing and it needs some technical elements, that samba was a rock and roll stage production, not a dance. I applaud Evan, I think the injury cut into his training time seriously and with everything else it all caught up. He needs to get some rest and lay off the nightclub scene with the cast.
I liked Evan's Samba, but putting that aside - what was up with the judges eliminating Evan and Anna so quickly in the dance marathon? Before Chad/Cheryl, Pam/Damian, etc? How can anyone justify that?
Also, to me it seems like they've been trying to keep Pam Anderson's scores higher than she deserves because for some reason America is not voting for her. The funny thing is - they want her in so desperately because the thinking is that she is ratings gold. Yet, if folks aren't voting for her maybe she isn't the reason they are tuning in after all.
I don't like those marathon, "dance off" things because, while it is fun to see them all out there together, it seems so fixed...like the judges had an order picked out and it's gonna happen no matter what goes on during the actual live performance.
During the marathon, the judges pretty much eliminated someone right after they made a mistake. I don't remember what Evan and Anna's mistake was, but I'm pretty sure I saw it happen right before they were eliminated. The camera angles really seemed to show the right couple at the right time to see the mistakes. Niecy was doing great, until that laying down on Louis, and that's when they pulled them. I was surprised that Maks and Erin didn't stay longer, because they were actually doing better (more swing-y) IMO than Derek and Nicole.
I don't think that Evan deserved those low scores. From my perspective it was a fabulous dance for the pair. The judges seemed to be very harsh last night. And downright mean. It really was disconcerting listening to some of those comments. And Bruno should stop trying to be funny as he comes across sarcastic and just plain snotty and snooty.
