'Damages': Michael Nouri hopes for more

michael-nouri-damages-320.jpgMichael Nouri has had a great time playing the unfaithful ex-husband of Glenn Close on "Damages," should it all end now. But he hopes it won't.

The FX series wraps up season three with a 90-minute finale tonight (Monday, Apr. 19), and though Nouri doesn't appear in it, he says he'll be watching. He's unsure whether a possible deal between FX, Sony Pictures Television and DirecTV will keep the complex drama about the world of tough New York attorney Patty Hewes alive, but Nouri would enjoy having more Close calls.

"I love playing with Glenn and the rest of those people," the veteran actor tells Zap2it. "I hope it continues, because it's a wonderful show. And if not, it was terrific. I can't wait to see this finale."

As long as he has been acting -- dating back to the late 1960s, with highlights including the iconic 1983 movie "Flashdance" along the way -- Nouri credits "Damages" with giving him "some wonderful teachers ... Glenn, Bill Hurt, Ted Danson, Marcia Gay Harden, everybody who's been on that show. I've just delighted in watching them.

"That show also has attracted some of the finest actors in supporting roles," Nouri adds. "Their names may not be familiar to the public, but they're as good as anybody."

Following guest parts on such other series as CBS' "NCIS" and ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," Nouri begins a daytime run on "All My Children" May 24 on ABC. He says the challenging nature of making "Damages" has helped him prepare for just about anything that may come.

"Very often, we didn't know anything about where the scripts were going because the writers didn't know, by their own admission. It's like flying by the seat of your pants, and that is what made it so exciting. If you're a control freak as an actor, you're going to be very frustrated on a show like 'Damages.'"

I really hope Damages gets another season somehow. And if it doesn't, boy, did it have a great run. Smart, suspenseful, complex story lines--what more could a viewer ask for?

Despite some of the problems with the show this season (Ellen's erratic behaviour being number 1), I really hope that it comes back.

More than anything, I like these characters and the universe they occupy. I don't think that the medias is res storytelling is necessary to enjoy it.

Anyways, highlights of the finally:

-The return of Ray. I guess much like Julian, he's a spectre who will be haunting Arthur for some time.

-Arthur's pleas for mercy: I volunteer! I coach little league! I loved "An Inconvenient Truth"!

-Tom's toilet bowl death...because, no one deserves some sort of dignity when they die on this show.

More of my thoughts on the finale are available on my blog where I go into detail about Patty's confession session with Joe and how Wes and Arthur aren't so different:
