Chloe Grace Moretz in 'Kick-Ass': 'Morally reprehensible,' says Roger Ebert

chloe-grace-moretz.jpgAs a legendary film critic, Roger Ebert has seen every trick in the book. We figured nothing would be able to rattle him, but apparently 13-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz's performance as Hit Girl in "Kick-Ass" crossed a line. "Will I seem hopelessly square if I find 'Kick-Ass' morally reprehensible and will I appear to have missed the point?" Ebert asks in his review.

In the film, Moretz's 11-year-old character "dishes out carnage," according to Ebert, and is later hammered to within an inch of her life by an adult man. Along the way, she is shot by her own father (Nicholas Cage) at point-blank range while wearing a bulletproof vest, seems emotionally unfazed by the slaughter surrounding her, and drops so many F-bombs it makes Joe Biden's seem totally appropriate.

Despite giving the film two thumbs down, Ebert did say that Moretz has "presence and appeal" as the purple-haired child assassin. At age 13, Moretz already has 19 movies, including "(500) Days of Summer" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," under her belt, with 6 more on the way before the end of 2011.

Yeah, he's just a square.

Absolutely he's an old man with old school morals. It's a freakin' comic book movie and should be taken as such. Kick-*** was an awesome, hilarious fun movie. Ebert can go suck his two thumbs down.

Great movie go see it halarious

My 40year old dad liked it And said tht he wld tell all his freinds to c it and I agree

Kick-*** was kick ***. I respect Ebert, but I don't agree.

Someone, some spokeman, in the entertainment industry ought to have the boldness to call filth out regardless of whether lowlifes want to hear the truth or not. You and other distubred individuals may find filthy language, and acts of depravity as "fun", but normal people don't. It's a comic book turned movie, fine. Harmless??? Based on your perverted comments, not!

I'd just like to point out that if you peruse Ebert's Great Movies list you will find a couple of films (Pixote and WR: Mysteries of the Organism) much more graphic than Kick-***. The man who helped write Russ Meyer's Up! and Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens definitely doesn't have "old-school morals." The ultimate question here is should one ever be morally offended by art/entertainment? Those opposed to Ebert seem to think that nothing should be found morally questionably because "it's only a film." As an extreme example couldn't Mein Kampf be called just a book therefore no one should be offended.

Penis breath little **** eat broccoli and don't get canc@er

I agree with Robert. Robert is not some old fuddy duddy, he's very open minded. He's aware that his opinion will make him seem like that. But he still is raising the questions he is thoughtfully, and I see his point too. On one hand, I loved the movie. On the other hand, I see his point about how the movie went from very promising to missing the mark by the second half. He brings up a very good piont too: they aren't superheros. Yet Hit Girl is in every sense-no 11 year old girl can do all the sfx she's doing in the film.

that movie is awesome I just finshed watching it its awesome and she is a great actress for a 13 year old
