Carol Burnett on 'Today,' 'Regis and Kelly' for more 'This Time Together'

carol-burnett-nbc-today.jpgCarol Burnett tells "Today" about discovering Vicki Lawrence and tells Regis and Kelly on "Live" the amazing story of how she came to New York to act.

When Burnett was a student at UCLA, she performed at party in San Diego and a wealthy man came up to compliment Burnett on her performance.

She revealed she wanted to go to New York but didn't have the means to do it, so the man told her to come to his office in a week and there he lent her $1000. "I had never seen so many zeroes in my life," Carol tells Regis and Kelly.

There were three stipulations attached to the money -- she could never reveal who he was, she had to use the money to try to make it in New York and that if she became successful she had to help others the way he helped her.

Carol was making the rounds on the talk shows Tuesday, April 5 in order to promote her new book "This Time Together," the title of which is a partial lyric from the theme from "The Carol Burnett Show."

Check out Carol on "Today" with Hoda and Regis' old partner Kathie Lee. We love the story of how she discovered Vicki Lawrence, who was on "Mama's Family" with Burnett for years.
